Reviews
NipPierce Wow, this is a REALLY bad movie!
SparkMore n my opinion it was a great movie with some interesting elements, even though having some plot holes and the ending probably was just too messy and crammed together, but still fun to watch and not your casual movie that is similar to all other ones.
Neive Bellamy Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.
Sameer Callahan It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.
inkslayer A little boy goes off to live with his grandparents while his parents are estranged. He sometimes becomes frightened with certain "scary" events and people, and sometimes, not.The problem with 'The Fields" is, poor writing. The person who wrote this mess needs to take script writing classes. He has "events" he experienced as a child in his head, but does not know how to get them out of his head and on to paper. And because he does not, 'The Fields' lacks a beginning and middle, and most importantly, a satisfying ending. As a result, the viewer is subjected to scenes that make no sense (except to the writer), and nothing that keeps the viewer interested or motivated to watch. Also, who cares about what you experienced as a child? Especially when you can't weave an interesting story and interesting characters into it.If you are expecting a thriller or a scary movie, this isn't it. It is, however, a good example of a poorly written script. And, it's a good movie for young teenagers who don't care what they watch.Surprised Ms. Leachman signed on to do this.Points for locations, props, and some of the shots. Points taken off for Ms. Reid's ridiculous wig. Seriously? And points taken off for overdoing AND under doing the foley and the music.
kosmasp If you expect this to be a movie filled with jump scares and the likes you are expecting the wrong things from this movie. This movie plays with fears and anxieties of a little kid. And even Tara Reid cannot really affect the movie (especially because thankfully she is not in it the whole time). The star of the movie is the kid and he does a really good job.If I had read the based on actual events I might have not looked upon the movie the way I did. But even so, if you take it as it is, you might be able to enjoy this vision of fear. Just don't go in expecting this to be your typical run of the mill horror movie. It's still predictable, but a decent movie after all
emma2015 How anyone rated this a 10 is beyond my belief. There was no storyline. I tried very hard to fall in love with the characters but it never happened. Had no idea what was happening half the time and the corn field kept dying or being green? What? The boy seemed to just randomly appear places. Very bad. No suspense. Not scary. Disappointing beyond Belief. Made an account just to yell about this bad movie because i was so misled. The movie was about 40 minutes of simply trying to build up characters that i ceased to fall in love with. Its was very unfortunate because after seeing quite a few good ratings i had hoped for a better outcome. Made my family wait and watch to see an uneventful bad ending. A waste of my day.
gavin6942 Tells the story of a young boy (Joshua Ormond) and his family who are terrorized by an unseen presence.I went into this with intense hesitation, thinking that Tara Reid would ruin just about anything she touched. But the creators were smart -- they put her in a supporting role, limiting her screen time while also using her "star power" to get the film attention. Cloris Leachman has a much bigger role and while I would hate to say she shines here (she dimly glitters), she gives an interesting performance and plays against type. The biggest problem with this film is how slow it is. The pacing is good, but the overall story drags, and the suspense borders on the tedious at times. Few of the suspenseful moments have payoffs, which only adds to the aggravation. The general concept -- putting a creepy hippie story against the backdrop of Charles Manson's parole possibilities -- is an interesting idea, and the inclusion of public domain movies in the background was well-played. Both "Carnival of Souls" and "Night of the Living Dead" paralleled their scenes nicely. Was this really based on a true story? I have no idea. But it works regardless.
