Reviews
Diagonaldi Very well executed
Freaktana A Major Disappointment
Curapedi I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
Arianna Moses Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
davey184 I have never watched this type of documentary/film before, as in my own ignorance. I thought the genre would be dull and boring. I am a 48 year old film buff. Making myself proclaimed lack of knowledge embarrassing. I was hooked from the first minute and often questioned whether the subject, star and former Death Row prisoner could be the person telling the story about his own life. I have too admit I googled it, as I did not believe how good the narrative was. It is a true story about how people can go off the rails in life, with seemingly no hope for a future. Soldier on with guilt in their soul for the poor life decisions they made for themselves. Yet one trigger of an undeserved good deed from a fellow human, can send that person on a path in a completely opposite direction. Watch this for ten minutes without getting hooked or give my review the thumbs down.
richardmeadfsu Short and sweet: The Fear of 13 is a simple set up that pays off in groves. One man sitting down and telling his heartbreaking and humbling story with what seems like no script at all; this film blends a documentary-esque interview with well-shot sequences that foreshadow and illustrate effectively.I adore this film for not trying to be anything more that what it is, and applaud the filmmakers and Nick Yaris for telling me this story. Also, there is one scene of a man singing in prison that hits me hard, and has ended up being one of my favorite sequences in film.
djmrmusic I must start this review by saying a few things... I am NOT involved with this documentary in any way shape or form. I am not really a fan of documentaries. I only watched this because of the reviews I read here. I was VERY skeptical because I have been mislead by reviews so many times before. but the positive reviews here are truth!, watch it! so please believe me when I say these things... The telling of this story was SPECTACULAR and as near to perfection as you can possibly get!all I can say is "WOW", it is worth your time! I am going to recommend this to everyone I know...
COMalcolmII I've watched many documentaries about crime and listened to people who have committed crimes. I don't usually rate documentaries because they provide different information that is important across the board and I can't put a rating on that. This is my first ever review and the reason why I chose to review this film is because it's one of the most captivating and detailed story I've ever listened to, about crimes someone have committed. Throughout the film, I kept asking myself, why is this (former) prisoner so good at storytelling and why was he in prison, it is almost like you almost can't believe that the story actually happened because of the way he was conveying it. The cinematics were just enough to compliment Nick Yarris' story which made it all together very engaging and beautiful. Even though he went back and forth in history while he told his story, it was still easy to understand because it all came together as he spoke.A wonderful story that everyone should hear.
