Reviews
Cathardincu Surprisingly incoherent and boring
Griff Lees Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
Keira Brennan The movie is made so realistic it has a lot of that WoW feeling at the right moments and never tooo over the top. the suspense is done so well and the emotion is felt. Very well put together with the music and all.
Scarlet The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
afonsofrancopereira The only thing i have to say is that i'm in 2018 and i still Watch this movie.
Dylan Gallagher I really liked this movie! It was quite unique and far from cliché like a lot of other films, and the humour in it was totally admirable! For a children's movie, it was genuinely entertaining! It has this imperfect nature about it that made it almost perfect, and for that I applaud the writers and directors. The characters were all enjoyable to watch except two, "Reggie Belafonte" played by James Woods, and "Tank 'The Shredder' Evans" played by Diedrich Bader, but in saying that, every film needs its villain-like characters, so it's totally cool. I really loved the character "Chicken Joe", played by Jon Heder; he was always amusing to watch and he had this stoner, peace-and-love, hippy surfer dude vibe about him, and he was always so mellow and carefree! I love it! And not to forget, hilarious! I'm actually astounded that it's only rated 6.8/10 on IMDb because I feel as if it deserves a little more recognition than that. It's a complete stand-out and not just your average animated drama that tends to have a lot of "seen it" and "been done before" moments.. I guess people love cliché..Overall, a totally enjoyable film that I'd definitely re-watch, especially with my nieces and nephews. I'm not sure if they've seen it or not, I'll have to ask them, but I think they would love it!Radical, dude! 8.5/10
Rectangular_businessman The first time I heard about this movie I wasn't very enthusiastic about it, because I thought that it was going to be similar to "Happy Feet" (A movie which I hated, despite the great animation) Fortunately, "Surf's Up" ended being much more enjoyable than I was expecting. It is true that it had some tired clichés and overused formulas, but the result is still watchable.I think that the fake documentary treatment that this movie had (In a similar way to Rob Reiner's "This Is Spinal Tap") served to make a couple of scenes (That could have been much worse done in a conventional manner) funnier and much more interesting. While the main character was a bit boring and almost without any kind of distinctive traits (A flaw which sadly became quite common in some of the CGI animated movies from the recent years) the secondary characters were more likable and interesting. Personally, I think that Chicken Joe (voiced by Jon Heder) would have been a much more interesting protagonist, but anyway, this was still a satisfying film for the whole family, with great animation and good voice acting. I found it to be worth watching.6.5/10
FilmFanatic03 The thing I love about this animation is the fact it is a documentary spoof. I love how the characters are interviewed and it is parallel to the story. The baby penguins are so cute. Chicken Joe is hilarious, chilled out style and quirky. Cody is the leading character and he is great, all the characters are great and have every right to be given an interview because they all have something to offer. I love this animation so much because it is rich with humour and it has a laid back style which is refreshing and easy to watch. Deservedly nominated for an Oscar because it is different and unconventional for an animation. A great family film for all to enjoy.
