Sordid Lives Trailers

"Sordid Lives" is about a family in a small Texas town preparing for the funeral of the mother. Among the characters are the grandson trying to find his identity in West Hollywood, the son who has spent the past twenty-three years dressed as Tammy Wynette, the sister and her best friend (who live in delightfully kitschy homes), and the two daughters (one strait-laced and one quite a bit of a loser).

Ogosmith Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.
Kamila Bell This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Mandeep Tyson The acting in this movie is really good.
mspeed44 This is an excellent, entertaining, laugh out loud movie! Every character is so well played in an over-the-top role. It is difficult to say which character is best--Bonnie Bedalia is so wonderful; she is often overlooked, but in this movie, she is certainly the star. Delta Burke--the woman is a world class comedy act, and when she has a gun in her hand--well, she becomes the show! Brother Boy is absolutely priceless (can't think of the actor's name). If you have a family, you know at least some of these characters (or you are lying about your family!!) If you've ever had an "uncomfortable" funeral, you know the scene in the church. I laughed as hard as I've ever laughed about anything. And when Bonnie Bedalia tells about going to see her son in a play in Los Angeles, tears were rolling out of my eyes. The ending is priceless! If you are southern, if you have a few weird family members, if you love to laugh--watch Sorbid Lives.
Garbo46 After many viewings, this has become my favorite movie. I was born in Mississippi, so I can detect semblances of relatives in all the characters! Beth Grant is a gem, probably the best actress to ever play a deep south character. If you watch repeatedly you start to appreciate the nuances of the phrasing, the gestures, and facial expression. Newton-John's singing is pivotal in the staging of important scenes. I would think "Ain't It a Bitch" would make a great song to sing in taverns and hillbilly bars to get the action flowing, and her song in the credits is fantastic. Don't know why it wasn't pushed to be a pop hit. All the actors are superb, fleshing out their characters with great aplomb. Relatives getting together for a funeral provides a great premise for messages of self-acceptance, being non-judgmental, spotting hypocrisy, being fabulous, and seeing the absurdity and joy of life even in an atmosphere of death. Good show!
jlcdean I saw the movie with friends, and immediately went out the next day and bought it. I guess one would have to be raised in the South to appreciate the wonderful writing of Del Shores and his subtle (and not-so-subtle) references to deep-south living. Let's face it, if you live down here, the question is not which side of your family has the crazy people on it, it's which side has the *most* crazy people on it, and I can relate to nearly every character in the movie. And while it makes light of the goings-on of a white-trash family and how they come to terms with the death of their matriarch, the underlying story of Ty coming out to his family is simply precious. Anyone that is battling with the process of coming out and the right way and time to do it should definitely watch the film.
yaaah_69 Sordid lives, is one of the funniest flicks to come around, and for me to say that, really means its great, as I do not like most comedies. I can count the ones I like in the last 10 years on my fingers and have some digits left over. Hurrah for Del Shores, his cast and crew. I can believe that everyone on the set had a great time and laughed a lot. Beau Bridges was quite funny as the lover of the Ingram's clans mother. who stumbles over Bridges wooden legs after an affair in a motel and dies, morbid, not by a long shot. The laughs get better. Delta Burke is superb as the jilted wife and has lost mucho weight since "Designing Women." But, the Oscar goes to Leslie Jordan, (Earl Brother Boy, Ingram) who has been sent to the loony bin to have him straightened out. His scenes with hi therapist is so funny I actually cried I laughed so hard, and his closing scene at the funeral is beyond belief. Folks if you missed this one the first go round, please for your own sake rent it, buy it, you will not be sorry. This film is rated fff for funny, funny, funny. But if you are one of those tight lipped southerners who cannot laugh at the wild side of life, stay far away. I rate this flick 5/5 or 10/10 ciao yaaah69
