Reviews
Bluebell Alcock Ok... Let's be honest. It cannot be the best movie but is quite enjoyable. The movie has the potential to develop a great plot for future movies
Winifred The movie is made so realistic it has a lot of that WoW feeling at the right moments and never tooo over the top. the suspense is done so well and the emotion is felt. Very well put together with the music and all.
Yazmin Close shines in drama with strong language, adult themes.
Francene Odetta It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.
SnoopyStyle Mike Kendall (John Hawkes) is a drunk. He lost his police job after a drunken shootout with a criminal. He finds a woman left for dead on the side of the road. He brings her to the hospital but she passes away soon after. He kept her phone and gets a call from a crass man who he believes to be her pimp. He decides to investigate her case on his own. This is an indie crime drama with some very impressive character actors. I don't know if it's the presence of Robert Forster but I get an Elmore Leonard vibe. Granted, it's not quite the same. Hawkes is a great character actor and his elevation into the lead is very commendable. He is a compelling actor with real empathy. I like his character's redemptive story arc. That's why the money is unwanted. Getting paid diminishes his selfless act. The two henchmen are great. The movie is filled with great character actors. There is pulpy goodness here.
tfminfl I wasn't expecting a kick ass movie, but that is what I got!!! John Hawkes plays an ex cop, Mike, ex cop because he was slightly lit during a simple traffic stop that went way out of hand and included the deaths of three people, one being his partner. Mike has been trying to get back on the force however that's not gonna happen, especially when you wake up each morning not knowing where the hell you are. And its on one of these mornings that Mike wakes up in a field, finds his car, and on the way home discovers a dying woman on the side of the road, after taking her to the hospital, she still dies tho, and left her cell phone in his car, which of course he goes through... and through the skills he learned with the force, he thinks he can solve this crime, one beer at a time. He creates a new name for himself and calls himself a private eye, and jumps right on in too the case, which involves the rich, hit-men, and prostitutes and pimps with hearts. It really was a cool crime thriller... my guess if it was made in the 70's, Steve McQueen would've been cast as Mike. Great supporting cast, Anthony Anderson, Clifton Collins Jr, Octavia Spencer and Robert Forster pops up as Mike's financial supporter and sniper!! Awesome flick, check it out!! Filmbufftim on FB.
gururug Interesting film. 10 second into this movie a strange feeling swept over me..... It was buzzing with a Tarentino vibe though the synopsis ( plot ) and scene told me otherwise.I had to leave a comment here because what i'm left with after the experience of this film is some sort of quasi awe/shock with just how precise the writer / director (s) were in executing such a succinct study in film making.I can't help feeling that behind the scenes, there are some missing architects unknown......... something....... catalytic.Pace, camerawork and people combine with score, direction and set to culminate in something any aspiring film maker should study and aspire to.To the creators, only some very minor tweaks in the crescendos, both visually and cognitively would have turned this symphony to the absolute high that it was capable of.I look forward to seeing future...... message making? work :) Thanks!
kevin_mac-72706 Looks like reviewers have seen a lot of bad movies to think this movie is good. Wasted my time by trusting a 6.7 rating. What a load of rubbish
