NekoHomey Purely Joyful Movie!
SteinMo What a freaking movie. So many twists and turns. Absolutely intense from start to finish.
AutCuddly Great movie! If you want to be entertained and have a few good laughs, see this movie. The music is also very good,
Dirtylogy It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.
Predrag This is a very smart, funny, and observant film about Hollywood, the media in general, and the public, and how they manipulate each other. The film pokes good natured fun at Hollywood and the media, and also makes some good points about the manner in which some stars become almost gods, worshipped by millions of fans, and how people are inclined to make very favorable assumptions about those who they adore. Pacino - superb as the down-trodden producer. Looks younger at the beginning of the film, and as Simone (his computer generated protégé played by Rachel Roberts), wins the film world, his appearance ages as the stress of maintaining the facade takes its toll. There is a poignant moment in the film, when Pacino is creating Simone's voice in a taped interview. In that moment, he makes you realize he loves his creation, and at the same time, becomes aware of his own underlying Hollywood narcissism as Simone is as an extention of his own personality and creativity. It explores the dark side of human with light humour and is disturbing as a social commentary on the adverse effects on computer proliferation. This comedy is smart, screechingly funny and unpretentious fun that comes as real and into-your-face as it can be.Overall rating: 8 out of 10.
Rafapq Everyday we watch more stories about how technology involve our life in a way that we do not care about anything else, this paranoiac topic gets the interest of many viewers, and more and more writers exploit this matters, the movie also shows the obsession that not only people but also paparazzi has on the life of an artist.I watched this movie and I love it, my tendency on science fiction usually gives the movies three star at least, I usually choose the movies I am going to see for its cast and director, so when I watched it, I didn't know what could I expect. But even thought I have a glade surprise. This movie has Al Pacino as one its main stars, he is one of the best actors on screen and I admire how he catches people attention with his monologue that defines him, and I think the unknown actress Rachel Roberts was perfect to create the illusion of her inexistence, furthermore Winona Ryder an actress that rarely get it right however accomplish well this task. The futurist Andrew Niccols has done another well made movie, this time he succeeds on bring us humor with mocking on Hollywood moralism.Simone is a simple movie that entertains with satire on paranoiac technology evolution and showbiz obsession. Definitely worth to watch
Deckard-16 With the thought of another Niccol film due out this year I decided to catch up with this movie on cable. After catching it I wondered how the heck did I passed on it in '02? This is a really fine & entertaining movie that makes fun of Hollywood so pointedly that I doubt that Niccol can get financing from inside the industry town. The premise of a director who sees himself as Terrence Malick 2.0 tiring of working w/ actors who demand that all the red M&Ms be removed from their Jackson Pollack painted 8-wide trailers who creates a virtual no demand actor is really no longer science fiction. In 2011 that can be done.Writer-director Andrew Niccol takes this premise, builds upon it & runs with it in very smart & funny ways. It proves that "Gattaca" & (his screenplay for) "The Truman Show" are not exceptions."S1mone" is not nearly as earnest as those 2 works. It shares their way above average intelligence, but is a lot funnier. In its 3rd act it exposes itself as a farce. If you accept this then you'll love this movie. If you wanted it to take the more tragic tone that it plays with then you'll be disappointed.Oh, the movie stars Al Pacino in fine form that is not virtual --I think.
TheLittleSongbird I was interested in seeing this film, because I was intrigued by the concept, I saw that the director Andrew Niccol also wrote for The Truman Show and I love that film and I like Al Pacino. On paper this should have been a great film, instead it is uneven but worth seeing.I agree the romance is dull, that the script has its weak spots, the direction is lacking in places and that the story is unevenly paced. However, I loved the concept and the satire worked as it was very sharp and thought-provoking. Al Pacino handles his role well, and Rachel Roberts is intriguing as S1m0ne, while Catherine Keener, Winona Ryder Jason Schwartzman and Jay Mohr are solid.Overall, it was a decent film but could have been more. 6/10 Bethany Cox
