Rising Sun Trailers

When a prostitute is found dead in a Los Angeles skyscraper occupied by a large Japanese corporation, detectives John Connor and Web Smith are called in to investigate. Although Connor has previous experience working in Japan, cultural differences make their progress difficult until a security disc showing the murder turns up. Close scrutiny proves the disc has been doctored, and the detectives realize they're dealing with a cover-up as well.

Reviews
WasAnnon Slow pace in the most part of the movie.
StyleSk8r At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
Brenda The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
Philippa All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
tbills2 Tatjana Patitz is the superhot naked model with Eddie Sakamura in the beginning left strangled on the company boardroom desk in one of movies' very best and most memorable introductory scenes to setup a story line. Tatjana's in the George Michael 'Freedom' video and one of the all-time sexy supermodels, if you didn't know. She has breathtaking Tatjanas, and the real killer pair of Patitz!Rising Sun is Wesley Snipes' (Blade from Blade) very best performance as well as one of Connery's (James Bond from James Bond) very best. They're on the lead in this all-time puzzle unraveling murder mystery with great acting from the deep supporting cast, Harvey Keitel (The Wolf from Pulp Fiction), Tia Carrere (Cassandra from Wayne's World), Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Shang Tsung from Mortal Kombat), Mako (The Wizard from Conan) and Buscemi (from Fargo and everything) and Alexandra Powers (from Dead Poets Society).Rising Sun has meaningful story progression that thoroughly develops the plot line. Pay close attention to its excellent keenly descript writing. The next generation video analysis is entirely enthralling stuff to watch for its time and even now.I can get up to rewatch Rising Sun time and time again as it offers a full array of emotions when viewing. It's one of my favorite movies and one of the underrated movies. I love Japanese culture!
betty dalton Wow. Why am I so in love with the smoothness of this flick? Because it has got EVERYTHING. It has suspense, really good suspense, because this story will entice you till the very end. Plot twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat. It has got eroticism, really hot stuff, thanks to the incredible gorgeous models. It has got treacherous deceit, betrayal between bloodrelatives. It has got corruption, racism, sexism, violence and slow deaths. I could better start mentioning what it hasnt got, because "Rising Sun" is an ideal blend of EVERYTHING you could wish for in a detective. What's the story? A gorgeous model gets raped and killed at a big Japanese company. Wesley Snipes and Sean Connery play 2 detectives who are called to the scene of the crime. The rest of the movie is a cat and mouse game to find out who raped and killed the model.Sean Connery is at his peak, playing the older and wiser detective who keeps paraphrasing chinese philosophers quotes, that are simultaneously deep and funny. Wesley Snipes plays the gung ho macho cop. Then there is Harvey Keitel. These 3 act at the top of their talents and they are to die for. It really is a macho kind of movie but with enough funny oneliners that one doesnt have to take it too seriously. The only thing that makes it a little dated is the use of old technology. Back then it was never seen before that you could alter video images. No one under the age of 30 can imagine that now. But besides the outdated technology, this detective is still really alluring and enjoyable. It isnt a comedy, but it sure as hell has got a lot of great tongue in cheek jokes. Really lovely, thrilling detective with excellent humor at the right moments so we wont take everything too seriously. Excellent blend !!! Seen it many times now and it stays fresh because of the excellent and witty dialogues and the ever charming Sean Connery!
RNMorton I actually read the book before seeing the movie, I recall at the time (many years ago) that I didn't think Snipes fit the kohai role very well. Since then I can't recall the book much and I have acclimated more to Wesley. But the focus here is on Connery, in one of his truly superb roles as Captain John Connor on special assignment to the LA PD. Connery has spent years with and among the Japanese, and when a prostitute is murdered inside Japanese corporate offices in Los Angeles, Detective Snipes and Connery are on the job. The plot as it is isn't really very exceptional, what is extraordinary is Connery's interactions with Snipes, the Japanese and everyone else, along with the (for then) astounding technology, always a Crichton staple. I can just sit back and watch Connery in this role for forever. Highly recommended just on the strength of Connery alone.
bkoganbing Michael Crichton's novel about murder and merger serves as the basis for a fine thriller of a film. For Sean Connery fans they will be pleased with what Connery does in this film.Wesley Snipes plays a Los Angeles homicide detective who has it insisted to him that he bring retired police captain Connery along with him to solve a murder committed in one of those glass tower buildings owned by a Japanese firm. The book and the film were made at a time it seemed that the Japanese were acquiring a lot of things American and were beating us at our capitalist game. Connery is quite a lover of Japanese culture and tradition in addition to possessing a keen eye for subtle nuances. His presence proves to be invaluable. The murder is that of a high priced mistress and it looks like she was strangled during some rough sex. In fact the Japanese who have a very different attitude toward privacy and tape everything and everyone have the room under video surveillance. The tape they supply shows a US Senator Ray Wise doing the deed. A lovely piece of blackmail since his vote in the Senate is a key one to get.But Connery doesn't buy it and eventually the truth is learned. Both Connery and Snipes are manipulated to a first solution and then to a correct one. The subtleties of the Oriental mind.Rising Sun is an OK thriller. It certainly gets a bit paranoiac about the Japanese taking over the country. Fears about that certainly proved to be premature.Cary-Hiroyki Tagawa as an up and coming Japanese yuppie businessman who has the solution and is part of it should be singled out for praise. As well as Harvey Keitel playing a Philistine American cop who symbolizes the ugly American in his own country. Good thing he had Snipes and Connery along. I'm agreeing with a lot of other reviewers who think Steve Buscemi was totally wasted in a role that proved superfluous to the film and went nowhere. I'm betting in the book he had a more central purpose to the plot.Sean Connery's world wide legion of fans should enjoy this.
