Fluentiama Perfect cast and a good story
Curapedi I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
Anoushka Slater While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
Celia A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
c-conley90 Yeah, don't expect Days of Thunder from this movie. The cover lies so badly about this movie being some Le Mans, Days of Thunder, Grand Prix style racing movie but is more just a character drama with Al Pacino, Marthe Keller. And a travelogue through the backstreets of Europe. The fact the critics gave it a trouncing is surprising. They probably should have liked it. But this movie is certainly no winner. Al seems lost touring around Europe, getting concerned about a fellow driver who died on the track and why it happen, why it matters, is ultimately never explored. After all he meets this new dying sick crazy woman(Keller) at a hospital in the mountains seeing a fellow injured driver and acting depressed. Keller ultimately is able to bring Pacino out of the shell he's in figuratively, basically him being like a turtle as she says. Stuck behind his sunglasses and not responding with too much life. Plus, his brother shows up with a scene of possible problems within his family. I guess half of the scenes of Pacino going around places in Europe could have been edited, but that probably would of ruined the art appeal. It's OK, Pacino still does good. Though he's not hamming it up yet, hell, he doesn't even yell until a scene where Keller goes hot air ballooning and he pretty much loses it with her weird ass behavior. And yes she is really weird. Even for someone dying of a disease.
zfiany This movie is realllllllllllllly good and it had me in so many scenes. I find it truly unfair that some people made fun of this movie while praised Titanic! And many of the bad comments were truly not logical as some criticized the illness as not known, does it really make a difference to the story! I mean what kind of criticism is this!!!! And another comment was his girlfriend looked so much like Keller but with shorter hair!!!!!!!!!!!! What is this?! No, seriously what is this criticism?!!!!!! So what? what if they look the same? This even serves the plot better that he fell for the character. But they don't look the same at all! Anyhow, the best scene in the movie that really makes you praise the writer is the one when Pacino is running and he is so down that his girl is dying, he stops by a gardener who is watering or trimming the plants and just goes and sits next to him without uttering a word! Good God doesn't really feel like it when you are down and you just want to sit next to someone you don't know and you don't want to talk! just take some positive energy and give that person some of your negative one as if you want others to feel your pain without you having to say anything! So poetic and beautiful that scene... it's a scene that I will never forget and it's a scene that makes the movie unforgettable to me.
maso-maso Marthe Keller is fantastic as usual and the touchy love story with Al Pacino convinced me at the first vision. Also the European locations are perfect and a few scene just like the flying balloons contest are unforgettable. The acclaimed Sidney Pollack was skill to direct two big stars with his delicate touch in tune with this kind of plot. Bobby Deerfield (*Un attimo una vita*in my country)deserves to be seen from the ones loved movies like *Love story* or *The way we were*. An advice for the car racer fans : this movie tells about an F1 driver but don't you expect a movie like *Days of thunder* the rope of all the matter for Bobby Deerfield is the growing remorse in his risky life beside a life close to the end, the ambition the achieving of a victory are not mentioned.
nak15 If you're looking for a film to leave on while you do other things, thisis your film. The costumes are beautiful and the films should be areference point for anyone studying 70s fashion. The shots arewonderful and the cinematography is great. The race scenes arefun to watch and really give the audience a visual feeling of aFormula 1 race. And there are a lot of really good-looking peoplein the film who move across the screen like a mixture of racecarson a track and clouds in the sky. Unfortunately, the story is silly, the dialogue is awful and the characters are irritating andunlikable; one has to hold back the desire to slap the female leadseveral times. Something for the true Pacino devotee. Ultimately Igave it a 5.
