Reviews
Usamah Harvey The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
Arianna Moses Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
Phillipa Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.
Logan By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
haarryi This is one of those occasions where I wish IMDb had a negative rating option. I still remember being awestruck after watching Sholay as a child. Even today, when I watch that movie, I am dumbstruck by the production value and the performances. It is one movie that has successfully stood the test of time. There was truly no reason to remake it. But, when I heard RGV is remaking the movie and actors like Mohanlal, Amitabh Bachachan, and Ajay Devgn is going to be involved, my expectation was sky high. Even though I had the question 'why' stuck in my head. I went and watched it on the first day and it was one of the most painful two and a half hours that I have ever had. I couldn't believe that a director of RGV's caliber could bring out a monstrosity like it. The movie was badly written, the acting was over the top, the reworked script and dialogues were pathetic. The camera angles were mostly off and the colour scheme annoying, to say the least. Editing was shoddy. Most importantly, the movie lacked the charisma, charm and life that made the original such a good movie. If I am to pick just one thing that I found the most outrageous with the movie, that would be RGV's muse Priyanka Kothari. It is said that, as an actor, you are as good as the person you are acting against. If that's the best he can do acting against the likes of Mohanlal and Ajay Devgn, you don't deserve to be called an actor. Every scene with her was beyond disastrous. And to think that she did the role that Hema Malini did in the original, pains me immensely. Over all, there is not a single thing that worked with the movie. It is a disgrace.
abhreebhu-397-558439 Ram Gopal Verma is a gifted director-he gave us Company,Satya,Shool,Ab tak Chappan,Sarkar n D,,but then he acted like all persons related to Bollywood n gave us-Darna Mana Hai,Darna Zarrori Hai,Vaastu Shastra n all.But this here is his master-piece,a movie with amazing cast, made as a re-make of an amazing movie,in an amazing(SARCASTIC)way. It's kind of disgrace on "SHOLAY" n i think Ramesh Sippy would definitely have thought of not making that movie just to prevent RGV from making a RE-MAKE.But the movie has some-positives=U can torture someone my gifting them a copy,or making them deliberately see this one.Synopsis: Plot=Sholay,,Story=?(u really want to know?),,Acting=PatheticAdvice=Gave it in the summary!!!!
best77-2 This movie should not be watched as it was meant to be a flop. Ram Gopal Verma first wanted to make this a remake of classic bollywood movie "Sholay", but after having problems with the original makers decided to go ahead with the project and... i guess leave all the good parts of the movie (acting, script, songs, music, comedy, action etc) out and shoot the movie just because he already happen to hire the crew. Waste of money, waste of time. After making movies like Rangeela, Satya, and Company he pulled a Coppola (Godfather) on us; What were you thinking RGV? Anyways, the story is, though hard to follow, is almost like the Old sholay. Ajay Devgan playing Heero (Beeru, sholay) and Ajay, new kid on the block playing Ajay (Jay,sholay). Both "bad yet funny" friends help a cop capture a bad guy first. Later in the movie, now Retired cop hires them as personal security and safeguarding from the hands of a very most wanted Bubban played by Amitabh Bachan. In case you haven't been watching Bollywood movies, the Good guys win in the end. There I just saved you 3 precious hours of your life!
sj_afiz Not as bad as some are making it out to be, though obviously pathetic compared to the original. In my opinion Amitabh was great as the villain Babban Singh - try not to compare to Gabbar in the original as they were clearly not going for the same effect. Other than some mediocre action scenes however, the rest of the film is flawed. Character development was poor and the development of the story was hopeless, with many loopholes, and missing pieces of information which i wouldn't have known if i hadn't read the back of the DVD case. The worst part of the movie was the support roles from Nisha Kothari and especially this new dude called Prashant Raj. Nisha is just plain annoying from the time her lips first open. As for Prashant Raj - seriously who is this guy? where is he from and why on earth was he present in the film studio for anything other than to serve drinks?. His acting ability is zero and he has the same tone, dialog delivery and staunch expression in every scene, whether it be action, comedy, or even a scene when someone has just died. Ajay Devgan was average, at least his expressions changed which is more than i can say for his mistake of a companion. overall, RGV's Aag is worth watching for Amitabh's solid performance, and also a very sexy Urmilla Matondkar in a special appearance.
