Reviews
RipDelight This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.
TrueHello Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
Rio Hayward All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
Patience Watson One of those movie experiences that is so good it makes you realize you've been grading everything else on a curve.
Martin Wilson I enjoyed the first skyline and so looked forward to this when I discovered it. The beginning of the movie was utterly dull almost to the point I was going to switch off but kept going and then it started rapidly improving and my attention was grabbed but the last 3rd of the movie was all downhill for me and just felt like the story was too ridiculous and then I stopped caring. What the whole film had was some very good production values and effects for what I assume is a fairly low budget movie. It's worth watching if you like cheesy scifi and would be even better with a few beers to dull your intellect a bit. The annoying thing is the film could have been so much more with a better script and story. The actors are fit for purpose the effects people certainly know what they are doing. It just becomes a stupid mess at the end reminding me of the reenactment of pearl harbour from monty python rather than a serious battle as per the real pearl harbour of ww2.
jodyfranz I had fun watching this and it was easy to get through, so 2 pluses for me right there. This movie reminded me of old sci fi b movies where aliens would run around disintegrating people. In this case they suck you up and scoop out your brain. I think this would have been way higher in ratings for me if they hadn't tried to take themselves as seriously as they did and camped it up a bit more, maybe with some cheesy one liners or something. For the budget this movie looks pretty good. You can tell they are wearing rubber suits (specially after watching the bloops at the end).Acting wasn't awful and was fairly believable in most parts. There is a scene where a baby grows from magic alien science powers, it would have been funny for the characters to point that out like, well how did her clothes grow or something. I watched The Cloverfield Paradox recently and compared to this movie Skyline is so much more enjoyable to watch (wanted to love Cloverfield just couldn't hope you understand).Don't shy away, if you like the first one you will like this one too. This movie has it all, aliens sucking up humans to harvest brains, kung fu, hot chicks (no nudity sorry), slposions, a bit of gore (not as much as you might think, that stuff costs money people), bullets flying and lots of ass kicking.
Paul Magne Haakonsen While the wait for this follow up movie took years, I will say that the wait was worth it. Well, if anyone was actually waiting for this movie as it was.The storyline in "Beyond Skyline" was just more compelling and interesting than it was in the predecessor. So that made for a more enjoyable movie experience. The CGI and special effects were quite amazing, as they also were in the first movie.Although this movie also has a proper storyline, whereas the first movie just was driven by CGI. That fact made for a more watchable movie, because it offered the audience more than just eye candy through fantastic CGI effects. They had a rather interesting selection of actors and actresses to perform in this movie.I was more than adequately entertained, and it was nice to see Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhian together again on the screen."Beyond Skyline" is definitely a movie well worth watching if you enjoy the Sci-Fi genre, or if you were enjoying the first "Skyline" movie.
Matt Hutson Beyond Skyline is the unneeded sequel to the 2010 flop movie Skyline. Although I love science fiction I wasn't much of a fan of Skyline. So why did I choose to watch the sequel? I like the main actor Frank Grillo who stared in The Purge: Anarchy. The second aspect is the fact that the second half of thBeyond Skylinee movie took place in Yogyakarta, Indonesia at Prambanan Temple. There Are two famous Indonesian actors staring in this film and I'm actually living in the country part of it was filmed in.The Plot An L.A. detective with a drinking problem (Grillo) gets a call to come down to the police station to get his son out of holding. This is where the action starts at the very beginning. The aliens come blaring in attracting all the humans who look into the blue lights which suck them up into the ship hovering over the city. The detective and son make it into the subway with several passengers and the operator of the subway hiding from the blue lights. Eventually they get sucked up into the ship, fight a bit and crash land in Indonesia where they meet Kanye (Pamelyn Chee) and Sua (Iko Uwais) teaming up to defeat the aliens with some interesting twists along the way.My Thoughts I just couldn't really get into the movie. I thought the fighting was alright but it just seemed to be random. Just as an example. There was this blind character who I though might have some key role since he was in the movie about halfway through but then just ended up dying a useless death. There were a few positives though such as a bit more explanation of why the aliens were on Earth and the fact we got a chance to see inside the alien ships. The location was exotic of course. It's Indonesia! The key to defeating the aliens was also unique as well and very human.Overall I wouldn't recommend watching this unless you know these Indonesian actors or you're a fan of Frank Grillo. There was just no substance to the movie.
