Reviews
Peereddi I was totally surprised at how great this film. You could feel your paranoia rise as the film went on and as you gradually learned the details of the real situation.
Connianatu How wonderful it is to see this fine actress carry a film and carry it so beautifully.
Twilightfa Watch something else. There are very few redeeming qualities to this film.
Jenni Devyn Worth seeing just to witness how winsome it is.
artur-artborg A short transcript of my oral reaction to the opening of the second part of "The End of Evangelion": "Uhm...? Uhm...? Uhm...? Uhm? Uhm!? UHM!? UHM!?!?!?" Er, did... Did Lars von Trier write this? 'cause I feel like Lars von Trier wrote this. Did... Has anyone ever seen Hideaki Anno and von Trier in the same room?"The End of Evangelion" is a messed-up trainwreck of a masterpiece. It makes "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me" and "Sedmikrásky" look like rational slice-of-life dramas. It is utterly insane. But also quite brilliant. This film certainly isn't for everyone, but if you enjoy watching minds unravel in insanity on-screen then boy is this movie for you. I give it 9 [Shinji's Crazed Screaming] out of 10
markcasa-63624 Wow I knew that i had to watch this movie as soon as I was done watching the show. The show was good but then after episode 16 things became all physiological. There some good episodes like episode 18 and 19 which are some of my favourite episodes from the show but then theres other episodes like episode 16, 17 and 15 which are just kind of boring and when I saw them for the first time I just skipped other them. Those episodes were nothing compared to the episodes before episode 16. Well this movie is kind of like that. Its a film who's first half is action and the other half is a physiological trip. Kind of like the show in a nutshell condensed into 90 minutes. Now basically the film is kind of confusing the first time I watched I was just trying to remember everything they were saying in the first half of the movie like when Misato was talking about what really happened in third impact. I kind of got it, it was like writings notes down for a test. Then there was the second half of the movie and it was like trying to write down a years worth of what my english teacher is telling me, but I barely pay attention. The first half has an epic fight between Asuka and the Eva series, which is the last fight in the show and boy does things get bloody. I loved too watch it we haven't have a fight like this since episode 19 and Asuka is my favourite character so its a perfect match of what I like. To bad she died, but I knew it was going to happen, I just didn't know how it was going to happen. Then theres the second half of the movie and thats where i'm like. Ugh. Because I had no idea what the hell was going on in that half of the movie. I don't really know what to say theres some good animation which is very nice seeing how this is a movie the budget is bigger then what the show cost. The show cost 65,000 dollars per episode I heard. Then the tumbling down song played and thats the best part of this second half of the movie. And then every one turns into goo and everybody dies. And then theres the last and shortest part of the movie. Even before seeing this movie I knew what this scene was. Asuka and Shinji the last two things alive on earth are on the beach surrounded by the dead Eva series and giant reis head. I knew this from a episode form Steven Universe Kike's pizza delivery service where the end of the episode is a parody to the end of the movie. I was like whats next and then Shinji starts to strangle Asuka, he stops and Asuka says "How disgusting". And I was like Hah. And then it ended. I liked the movie a good send of to a great show that had a bad ending. I just wished Gurren Lagann did this instead of condensing the show into two, two hour long movies. But those were awesome too.I give it 9 out of 10. But only because the second half was just weird.
urthpainter Like all instant classics, End of Evangalion has aged well. One of the most impactful movies put before my eyes. Disturbing, nightmarish, haunting and beautifully poetic, End of Evangelion is the gold standard for how to end an Anime series. Hideaki Anno's masterpiece, and one of my all time favorite films. This sites 'Did you know?' section is absolute must for any fan, and reads more like an insiders look at Apocalypse Now or a Robert Altman film. Clearly a labor of love, far more than the sum of its parts - everyone involved clearly poured their life essence into their respective obligations.Understatement? To say this isn't for everyone! But those who make their way through the series, do their homework, and understand what this film fulfilled will be rewarded with emotions they didn't know they had. So good it hurts, and will indoctrinate one completely into the adult animated world that only can be accomplished by Japanese culture. Thank Goodness for Anime!Glad to revisit: 10 out of 10
pinkarray OKay, I am an Asuka fan and I am here to complain about Asuka and how she got pushed to the sidelines. She is my favorite character and I don't like what they did to her. It was too torturous, they ruined her eye and her Eva REALLY BADLY and Shinji just got even more hateful by going crazy, crying, and even choking her at the end (gladly, she didn't die).I do not get the hype for this. The movie is boring. Asuka is what made the series better, I would've got bored and I did skip the episodes if she wasn't in them. So, I guess I do not get this movie or maybe I have to watch the series again. So, now we got to suffer an hour of Shinji's pansy butt. Like in the series, he did get more likable towards the end when we learn about his past. I did like Misato more, too. Rei had a more decent ark, but I don't like the end of the world thing at the end. No one else I really could care much for. This movie was just creepy and violent. I was thinking that this would be a great film but it was just very over-hyped. This movie just had me screaming at the computer through. The characters are quite different, Asuka is worrying about her mother and I was wondering if like I heard, it may be because her mother's soul was there or she was just relying on her to try her best to get through this hard battle but she had a really evil face on sometimes during the battle, I understand that this type of facial expression was new for its time but it still looked too evil. Misato seemed to have been in love with Shinji, she might've been this way in the series, too. And I don't understand Rei's arc of being above the world while it was destroyed.I also did not like the new facial expressions for Asuka representing the scenes in the anime like when she wakes Shinji up, she's now more scary and hateful than she was likable and funny.I also do not like the live-action combination in this, even though it did have a good message about reality in dreams. The jazzy song at the end of the first half was okay but it was smoother than Fly Me To The Moon.Gladly, it did not have Hikari in it but it still could do better than this.
