Reviews
Perry Kate Very very predictable, including the post credit scene !!!
Alicia I love this movie so much
Blake Rivera If you like to be scared, if you like to laugh, and if you like to learn a thing or two at the movies, this absolutely cannot be missed.
Guillelmina The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
Dean Woody First, I only watch chick flicks like this because of my lovely lady. I do love dogs, John Cusack (GRIFTERS), and, of course, beautiful Diane Lane. Must Love Dogs is typical pleasant but not overwhelming romance with simple story and dialogue.Christopher Plummer plays a foolish widower with lots of ladies and little respectfulness. He seems under-performing in this role. However, in one late scene with Diane Lane, he steals the show with a turn in depth of character and truth. This short scene is worth the $$ of a rental. It's not Shakespeare, but when your heart skips, you will understand how a professional stage and movie actor can move you. Bravo! How often do we witness these snippets of great scenes and acting from trivial films that are memorable enough to cause you to smile in your memories years later? When you find them, it reinforces what movies are supposed to be. Hats off to a superb Canadian actor who reminds us of these special performances in an otherwise average film. Now, when I am with my special lady, and she wants to cozy up with a chick flick, I will not complain about THIS movie with THAT scene.
Dikran Kayfian Sometimes I like watching easy movies, when I have a slow afternoon and the TV's running in the background. I would like to point out however that regardless of how easy-going and mystery-free the movie is, it should contain some valuable story. This is one of the several movies, the ending of which I saw happening in my mind after I've seen the first 5 minutes of the film (another one like this was the 1995 remake of "Sabrina"). And when I say 5 minutes, I am not hyperbolising - I mean it literally. Opening credits included. So, yeah, if you're looking for a good movie and none of your favourite actors are featured in this one - skip it. It's not worth it.
olivertabby1 I've never written to a "star" before....I've followed you for years, and I think you've always been under the radar,(maybe on purpose) and has HUGE potential for being an Oscar winning professional. Every time I see you on the screen, It's like being with my very first boyfriend in the 11th grade. (plus you look a lot like him) I'm Still single, and set up with a lot of "not feeling it dates". Maybe, if I'm in LA, or Chicago I'll "run" into you, literally...hopefully. NO, I'm not a freak hiding behind a computer stalking "stars" If, you do hit me in the street, I'm a 5"6 120 pound long haired blond probably with my 5 year old black lab, Oscar. I'll apologize, and keep moving....but, know your are adored from afar....Kim~
Gong5 I 'm a guy and I m not into rom coms but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Turns out IMDb users have rated it with 5.9. I 've decided that neither public opinion nor the critics are a good way to gauge a film, both are incredibly misguided, they don't have the appropriate intelligence, emotiveness, taste or flair. (!! HECK EVEN THE INBUILT IMDb DICTIONARY DOESN'T EVEN RECOGNISE THE WORD EMOTIVENESS AND THEY MARK IT IN THE PREVIEW AS A MISTAKE...they suggest that it be replaced with abortiveness, how about that for poetic irony) This might a bit on the harsh side but honesty has that tendency. Only a a friend whose taste you trust can really recommend a film. Anyway, I digressed enough. This is a sensitive, very well plotted and very funny film. I wasn't expecting this and I very positively surprised. First of all all the actors here give fantastic, even John Cussack who I thought had only been doing phone ins lately.Diane Lane, well what can you say about Ms. Lane, she's such a treat, such a dependable actress. Here she lets off her guard and delivers a very difficult performance (that of a woman growing older, being neurotic, being needy) in such a splendid way. She's so appealing here being so vulnerable. I thought no one could hold a candle to Diane Keaton in these types of roles but Lane here is a more mature Annie Hall for the 2000s. Actually the film is very Woody Allen-y in a lot of ways. The sublime Stockard Channing gives a fine performance too (what a fantastic comedienne, she could make watching paint dry entertaining, one of the truly great actors on the screen these days.), and so does Elizabeth Perkins, and the old master Christopher Plummer. But all the other characters are so well acted too. Absolutely fantastic casting here. Kudos for the direction here and of course the writing, there are some minor lines that gave me belly laughs. Most of them subtle and understated of course like much of this film. It seems unless you paint with these awful broad dramatic or comedic strokes people don't get it. And why would they. And what lovely dogs too!!A real unexpected treat this film, a fun, sensitive, silly and honest romantic comedy.
