stuart-12777 In a time when it seems every film that released is over hyped and thus a disappointment, it is heartening when you see a film that is every bit as good as you had hoped. Marshland is is one of those films.Most reviews here praise the photography, suspense and story line which are at times mesmeric but I also liked the setting and the feel of the film as well as the humble characterisations. I have also watched a little of True Detective which other reviewers have mentioned, there is simply no comparison as Marshland is a far better project. I am sure this will become a classic.It is disappointing that only one poor and misguided reviewer here has lowered the films rating.

Fella_shibby Marshland is slow burn, albeit entertaining and intriguing police procedural that takes place in a rural Spain during 1980. In addition to this police investigation we have an interesting character study, as we get to know the two detectives Pedro and Juan. The photography in particular is splendid. There was something very trance like feel in this movie, especially the weather n the locations. The music too was good. I enjoyed true detective the mini series. Marshland comes very close to true detective. Also while watching this film, memories of murder came to my mind. The Superb photography, memorable acting, music that asks questions, simmering political undertones. The cinematography was excellent. Certain scenes looked like painting. I highly recommend this to fans of true detective, memories of murder, prisoners and the abandoned (2006).

Salvo Ciccia The similarities with the American TV series are embarrassing, I am surprised only one of the above reviews has mentioned it. The director should have put the TV series in the credits! This film sounds like a Spanish version of the first season of True Detective, as two moustached cops are investigating a bunch of murder-rapes of young women in a rice paddies area in north of Spain (Andalucía).Like in True detective season the little town is surrounded by wetlands of corruption and insanity. Even the supernatural - magic elements are copied.The story is highly predictable and conventional. The difference - beside the Country - is the period: here we are in 1980, with Spain in transition between fascism and democracy - with the characters deeply involved in the change.The director his trying is best to hide the similarities - like the use of drone shot.But even the finale remind us of the series True detective first season Enjoyable though - just like the series.

Reno Rangan This is a good suspense-crime-thriller. Reminded me the Korean film 'Memories of Murder', but not the same or similar, except the crime scenario and the location. Awesome to see a detective story that takes place outside the urban area. The Spanish countryside was so beautiful, those marshlands, especially from the aerial views.I think the brilliant cinematography is the first thing anyone would notice and the 80s atmosphere. The narration was steady as the crime after the crime with tension arise, while on the other side the investigation advancing till the last minute to reveal the truth.The two cops were so good, along the murder mysteries they're working on. Beside these two men are the characters with riddles. Not only to each others, but for us as well. Not easy to predict anything, also there are some loose ends to have our own perspective regarding the story puzzle. The overall impression is its a fine mystery-crime, but still I felt that I did not enjoy entirely due to the lack of originality. Other than that I'm sure it is worth a watch.6½/10
