Rio Hayward All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
Fella_shibby Saw this on a DVD in 2007. I jus picked up the DVD without knowing anything bah it. The tag line n the DVD poster raised up my curiosity. Loved the film. I have the dvds of all the 3 parts. Hav become a fan of the director Adam Green. Its like a typical 80s slasher with non stop body count with amazing special effects. Tourists on a New Orleans haunted swamp tour find themselves stranded in the woods, their evening of fun turns into a horrific nightmare. Hunted by a madman in the swamps. Sounds 80 huh? OK nothing new with the story but don't lose hope. This movie is a gore fest of epic proportions. This film is indeed An old school American horror. Indeed this film gav birth to a new horror icon. John Carl Buechler's special effects are brilliant and the soundtrack, by Andy Garfield, play a strong role in creating the atmosphere. Arms and legs are ripped off, jaw bones r ripped apart, heads are torn and twisted off, bodies are set ablaze, shoulders r ripped apart by belt sanders, bodies r thrashed against wall as if thrashing a whip against a wall, crowbar pierced inside foot, .....n lots of tits. I jus wanted a lil more crocodile action. The death scene of Richard Riehle was way over the top. I was laughing n rolling. Genre cameos by Robert Englund, Tony Todd, John Carl Buechler n Kane Hodder.
mwkmak I didn't expect much selecting this movie on my On Demand service. Never heard of it before but figured why the Hell not? This movie actually was decent, all things considered. Kane Hodder is intimidatingly huge, and as always plays a great villain. The character seemed to be the villain is actually someone who you actually, at points, empathize with. It does have some odd... plot holes that didn't seem to make much sense, but its a movie so why not go along for the ride? I do not believe I will watch it again, but it was at the same time, not a complete waste of time. The ending angered me, and that is all I will really mention about that. Anyone who has seen it should understand its likeness to other infuriating conclusions. I can't really see myself giving this more than a 6 for a rating. It was decent, not great, and definitely not on the bad side of decent.
Leofwine_draca HATCHET is a surprisingly decent modern-day slasher made as a tribute to the 1980s horror flicks of old. The best thing about it is that writer/director Adam Green (who also made the excellent FROZEN) is clearly a huge fan of the genre and a guy who pays tribute to it in every respect.Of course, let's not kid ourselves here: this is hardly ground-breaking stuff, and the cheesy dialogue is a little, well, overripe at times. It's also a low budget film although location photography in Louisiana helps make up for that. The storyline is a predictable one in which a tour group visit the bayous by boat only to fall foul of an indestructible killer with a horrifically mutilated face who begins to dispatch them one by one.HATCHET is all about the old-school gore effects and in this respect it comes up trumps time and time again. The killer - played to the hilt by Kane Hodder - uses all manner of implements to take out his victims, and the death scenes are a real hoot that celebrate good old-fashioned prosthetic effects rather than dwelling on sleazy torture porn or the like. Sure, the characters are one-dimensional, but that doesn't matter: this is a fast-paced tribute to the genre and one that works very well indeed; oodles of humour helps with that. Watch out for the Robert Englund, Joshua Leonard, and Tony Todd cameos.
MitchellCombden Hatchet is one of those slasher films that every slasher fan should love. Over the top violence and gore, boobs, a crazy killer with a generic origin story, awesome death scenes, secluded and eerie setting, cool actors, laughs, literally this film has everything! One thing I definitely know is that the cast and crew had loads of fun making this film and the people in charge love slasher films. The project isn't taken to seriously and has that classic cheesy feel to it. I love Kane Hodder as Victor Crowley, his experience playing Jason Voorhees brings great energy to the role. Robert Englund has a cameo in the beginning of the film, he's one of my favourite horror actors of all time. Joel David Moore and Deon Richmond are very likable and sometimes funny characters. Tamara Feldman is great as the strong willed Marybeth and the rest of the supporting cast do their roles just fine. The setting (a secluded New Orleans swamp/marsh) is great fun and it's just extra fun watching all the characters run mindlessly around the swamp trying to elude Victor Crowley. Also as I've already said, the gore is very over the top and as far as I know there was no CGI gore used so things look very organic and awesome. Such a fun slasher film, I'd recommend it to any fan of slasher films. The verdict: 8/10, one of the most entertaining slasher out there and the best slasher to come out in recent years for sure
