Reviews
Diagonaldi Very well executed
Majorthebys Charming and brutal
Casey Duggan It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
Erica Derrick By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
skybrick736 Steve Miner continues to direct the Friday the 13th franchise and follows up with a box office hit Part II, which greatly surpassed his previous sequel Part II. Friday the 13th Part III sticks with the continuity of the first two films but also has to add the long unneeded setup that highlights the ending of the last film. Within ten to fifteen minutes of watching the new characters and hearing the dialogue, its obvious that the route the writers took was a more comic, campier style that wasn't present in Part II. The biggest problem however with Part III is the characters, the biker gang was really shoehorned for little reason but to die and there are a handful of annoying characters, especially David Katims's role. Friday the 13th Part III has some entertainment value to it, but when it boils down the quality there are definitely better options out there.
TheLittleSongbird 'Friday the 13th' may have been panned by critics when first released but since then it is one of the most famous and influential horror films, the franchise containing one of horror's most iconic villains. The film is popular enough to become a franchise and spawn several sequels of varying quality and generally inferior to the one that started it all of. Liked the first two 'Friday the 13th' films, despite not exactly considering them great, had a very mixed view on this. 'Friday the 13th Part III' leaves a lot to be desired but is it a terrible film? No. It does contain a lot of the faults that the first two films did and makes more without having enough of what made them work. The music score is still eerie and there are a couple of clever death scenes and unsettling moments. There are two halfway decent performances, a quite endearing Dana Kimmell who is also the most expressive of the actors and thankfully creepy Richard Brooker. It's also interesting for being the first film to introduce Jason's famous look. 'Friday the 13th Part III' doesn't have too crude visually, actually having some grit and professionalism. However, the rest of the acting is mostly awful and strains to even strain mediocre at best. Their characters are dim-witted stereotypes that the film tries to develop not so successfully at times through scenes that don't go very far. The script is cheesy and simplistic and the 3D effects were pointless and generally cheap-looking, even for the 80s.Story is not much better, with lots of camp and not enough suspense. The deaths generally are not as creative, there is too much padding and the ending is just weird and not in a good way.Overall, far from bad but far from good too. 5/10 Bethany Cox
Maladapted Friday the 13th Part III was supposed to be the last of the series after the first two did surprisingly well. The formula changes slightly, moving from counselors to a group of friends relaxing for a weekend near Crystal Lake. No longer do we have to ask "Where are the children?" The movie starts with a recap from the previous film, which is all of the previous film you really need to know to enjoy the movie. It was intended to end the series, so it doesn't cliffhanger you to death. If I'm introducing someone to Friday the 13th, Part II or Part III are my go to flicks. Since it is the movie where Jason gets his iconic hockey mask, it is probably the best entry point for the franchise if you don't want to subject someone to all of the parts before it.
Movie-man2002 I'm going to be giving a summary of the good and the bad of this movie and my overall thoughts. Here we go. Good: The movie has a few great kills that are creative and really "pop" out at you. Jason finally gets his iconic hockey mask. The 3D gimmick leads to some "so bad it's good" moments. Bad: The movie is generic as hell. It feels like the exact same movie as Part 2, which makes sense since Steve Miner also directed that film. There is barely any nudity or gore. The characters are completely uninteresting and you don't care what happens to them whatsoever. The script is lazier than usual. I know the "F13" films aren't famous for there writing but it feels as if this one was written while the writers were asleep. The acting in this is complete garbage, and that's saying something for a "F13" film. Also, wtf what with that biker gang!Verdict: Overall, this is one of the lesser films in the "F13" franchise. After the classic Part 1 and good Part 2, this movie pales in comparison to those movies. The biggest crime this movie commits is that it is so generic and predictable that it becomes boring. If you are going to watch all of the "F13" films, you can skip this one. Grade: 2/10
