Fella_shibby I remember seeing this film during the mid 80s on a VHS with poor dubbing. The name was Revenge aka Fearless hyena. If u like Jackie Chan movies solely for the Kung Fu fights, this is one movie not to miss. It features about long battles and one training scene. I consider this movie to contain some of his best fights ever. The end battle was really good showing Jackie fight without fear. Watch for the scene with the chopsticks and the big pots. Jackie dressing up as a female was good too. The most impressive thing for me was the brilliant training/workout scenes, which really showed the physical strength of Jackie chan. Anyway, if your into your Kung Fu movies then you definitely need this film in your collection. Memorable scene is the chopsticks duel. Jackie uses Emotional Kung-Fu, a style that involves displaying the emotions of anger, sorrow, joy and happiness to find the opponent's weakness thus fighting whilst crying or laughing. Very unique. This movie also happens to be Jackie Chan's directorial debut.
CitizenCaine The Fearless Hyena is Jackie Chan's debut as a film director, although he had been a fight choreographer previously. The plot is the same old tired one we've come to expect of martial arts films of the period, that being revenge for the murder of one's relative, master, teacher, or other by learning or training in a new martial art system of some sort. In this one, it's "emotional kung fu". There is really no real "emotional kung fu" system, but it doesn't matter. Chan carries the film with his fight choreography, comic effects, and silly antics. However, the plot is forgettable, the dialog is really bad at times, and the dubbing is horrible. The acting is laughable too, and get a load of those phony lumps that appear on iron head during his fight with Chan. Chan has a habit of mugging for the camera in this film as well. Still, the film is notable not only as Chan's directorial debut but as a continuation of his stylistic ploy of ingratiating himself to audiences through the use of physical comedy. ** of 4 stars.
smakawhat Well what can I say about Jackie.. he is a total clown in this film. The movie that i saw was dubbed get this... by ENGLISHMEN! So everyone had a British accent and it was a scream it was like watching Monty Python. The film quality however is pretty poor, and the fight scenes even though well choreographed, don't come out spectacular. However, there is the classic humor of Jackie, which even involves himself dressing up as a woman and beating a guy up with his breasts, and an unbelievable chopstick battle for a piece of meat between Jackie and his teacher (THIS WAS AMAZING HOW THE HELL DID THEY DO THAT you'd HAVE TO SEE IT TO BE BELIEVED!!)Martial Rating 6.5 out of 10Overall rating 5 out of 10
Chris(Runner) This movie, in my opinion, was not that good. In fact, I thought it was pretty awful. In the version I saw, they dubbed Jackie Chan with an Irish guy. He had long hair that made him look bad. And the plot wasn't that good, either. If you want a good Jackie Chan movie, stay away from this.
