NekoHomey Purely Joyful Movie!
BroadcastChic Excellent, a Must See
WillSushyMedia This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.
Guillelmina The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
Boba_Fett1138 He isn't really that active anymore in the movie world, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if he made this movie purely for the money. The time was right for it, dozens of these types of movies were being released in those days and always did fairly well at the box offices. It therefor was a safe and secure investment for him to make some quick cash.I didn't knew Fat Albert anyway. I don't think it has even ever been aired in the Netherlands and even if so, it was before my time. Why make a movie based on a 30 year old animated series anyway? It makes the characters and themes in this movie feel very outdated. It tries to change and update the characters throughout the movie but it isn't done in a very original way.The writers of this movie should never work on a movie again. You hear that Mr. Cosby? Really, this movie is about nothing and doesn't really go anywhere. The movie of course tries to send out a moralistic message and all but this doesn't work out because the approach of the movie is way too childish, which can for most part be blamed on the story. It's of course ridicules that nobody recognizes Fat Albert and his gang on the street, except by Bill Cosby himself and some very young kids, which is all the more unbelievable since the show aired from 1972-1985. Or a re-runs of it still really that popular? The movie is filled with this sort of ridicules plot holes and simple approach of things, such as the way the character get from the cartoon world to the real world. It's terribly unoriginal and simple all. The movie had some potential, also with its themes and main character, but it gets all wasted in the movie. It's basically a really weak comedy, with not only some bad writing but also some weak comedy. The movie doesn't have any good or funny moments or characters in it. Sure, of course the movie made me chuckle a couple of times, but that of course doesn't make a good comedy. It's also a poorly directed movie, that is very standard and without that many creativity. And with some stupid comedy editing in it. You know, the kind of editing that focuses on a person constantly after every funny intended moment or line of dialog. I don't think it's a coincidence that only mostly weak comedies always have this kind of editing in it.The acting is disappointingly weak. The movie mostly features unknown and inexperienced actors, which really shows.By no means one of the worst movies I've ever seen but it's one of the most pointless comedies of recent years. This movie is unfortunately not the only example of a bad recent comedy. I just hope they'll stop making this sort of movies soon, but I don't expect they will, since these kind of movies are still very profitable and therefor attractive to make.4/10http://bobafett1138.blogspot.com/
dikini84 I'm not one to give a movie 10 out of 10 but if it inspires others to watch this one I'll do it. The characters and their stories, the story as a whole and every scene within the movie have been given to the movie viewing public for your enjoyment but every aspect has so many messages for the cynics and critics in everyone. Without trying to list the ways this is not just any old feel good movie I'll try to show you why this is just a brilliant movie everyone can take something away from. I see it as a medium for Bill Cosby to say: No this is not a cartoon world where a scripted character can just solve the social and emotional problems of those around him, but does that mean we all have to treat everything with negativity, criticism, and cynical views.I'd be pushing what I have taken personally from this movie and what I think others should if I go any further.Watch the movie. Watch it right through to the end (I'd seen bits and pieces and dismissed the movie until there was little else to watch, and I regret not giving the movie the time it deserved in the first place). Then you'll see what I'm saying.
roastbeefsucks Before I went with my kids to see this movie, I was sure it would be great. I was wrong!!!!!! I know that it had gotten bad reviews, but so do a lot of other movies. I just wanted to take my kids out for lunch and a GOOD movie. I thought it would put them to sleep, and I could finally get some rest. I left with two ANGRY teenagers, and a CRYING baby. I think that it was the WORST movie I ever saw. This movie makes all African-Americans wonder why they are stereotyped!!!!!! I was ash aimed to be an African-American watching Fat Albert. I HATED this movie, I left the movie theater thinking should I ever waste my time and go to the movie theater . . . ever again!!!!!!!!!!
opaquedivinity This movie is truly a heart-warming tale of the good that cartoon characters can do if we only allow them into our lives and our hearts, once they've emerged out of our televisions. It is refreshing, if not liberating, to see a movie such as this focus on the positive rather than the more popular negative circumstances (see 1993's "The Last Action Hero", 2002's "The Ring") that can occur when a character pops out of a screen. Fat Albert (the man) only wishes to do good and is not drawn to the quote "real world" via turn of the century magic (Jack Slater, Benedict) nor is he driven by technicolor revenge (Samara).Fat Albert (the film) flawlessly tells the story of alienated Doris, a high school teen who, by her own admission, does not fit in. She desperately needs help, yet would never ask for it. Enter Fat Albert. Fat becomes aware of Doris' sad predicament when her tears accidentally fall onto her televisions remote control while watching the beloved series named for the big guy himself. However, in what is the stand-alone predictable moment in an otherwise perfect script, the space/time cartooninium is interrupted thus allowing Fat, Dumb Donald, Mushmouth, Old Weird Harold, and the rest of the Junkyard Gang to enter into Doris' life and do what it is that they do best-- solve problems and help folks out! It is important to note, however, that Rudy is left behind in TV Land where he is continually beaten up, raped, and tortured by new comer, Lead Teen-- thus once again confirming the stereotype that Hollywood hates midgets. While in our world Fat and the Gang do everything they can to help the poor Doris. They go to school with her, they go to the mall with her, they go to extravagant high-school block party birthday parties-- complete with several hundred friends, full light shows, DJ booths, an arch-enemy, dancing, etc. It is at this party that young Albert becomes smitten with Doris' step-sister, Lauri. Lauri is intelligent, popular, a track star and all-around fine piece of brown sugar. Almost instantly Lauri falls in love with Fat and a whirlwind romance blossoms.I would be remiss, however, if I said that this romance didn't seem forced and a bit "Hollywood" (i.e. an overweight, unpopular, teenager, who just arrived in town that day, catches the eye of the most eligible girl?) Then again I was skinny, popular, lived in the same town all through school and dated dumb chicks, so I could have it all wrong. But I digress, Fat Albert (the movie, if not the man) is a wonderful bit of story telling that endears itself to ones heart by first offering us a child-like innocence with a self-reproaching style, but ultimately brings out the child in all of us.10 out of 10 (I truly wish there was a number larger than 10)
