ReaderKenka Let's be realistic.
KnotStronger This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.
Rio Hayward All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
Marva-nova Amazing worth wacthing. So good. Biased but well made with many good points.
Filvies144 Now I saw this movie twice before. It wasn't a success for me. The animation is decent however cheap and very boring looking, there might be some funny parts, but that's about it. The writing isn't very good, its not very exciting after a long time, its just forgettable. The characters are so horrible and annoying. It was made in 2013, home of some bad animation like this, Free birds, Walking with dinosaurs, and the unsuccessful Planes movie (I haven't seen it, but I've heard its pretty bad.) So overall, this film was mediocre and poorly written. So save your money and watch a better space movie like Star wars or Galaxy quest. They are both live action, and better than this. This is a film that should've been nominated at the Razzies, but wasn't Story: 2/10 Animation:4/10 Characters:2/10 3/10
Michael O'Keefe Humanoid aliens living on the planet Baab are accustomed to turning on their news and seeing a pompous astronaut Scorch Supernova(Brendan Fraser)accepting his praise for his daring missions in space. One person not too over-excited with all the hoopla is Gary Supernova(Rob Corddry), Scorch's brother, who chose to be an engineer not an astronaut and is head of mission control. Gary is a bit jealous that his own son Kip(Jonathan Morgan Heit)may be showing most of his admiration to Uncle Scorch. Many explorers have been sent on missions to the "Dark Planet" Earth. When Chief Lena(Jessica Alba)receives an SOS message from earth, against Gary's advice, Scorch the arrogant superhero jumps the gun and heads to the "Dark Planet", from where no one returns.Very solid animation with nice sharp color, but lacking any real intelligence. After all, this is meant for a very young audience that probably does understand the mild rude humor. Other talented stars lend voices in support like: Paul Scheer, Sofia Vergara, George Lopez, William Shatner, Steve Zahn and Ricky Gervais. The youngsters will get more out of this than the grandparents they duped into bringing them.
Phil Hubbs Here's me thinking I missed the latest Snake Plissken adventure from John Carpenter, but actually I didn't miss much at all. I hadn't even heard of this film before, I merely stumbled across the poster one day and it looked quite cool, the title was the eye catcher though, love that. Problem is the films title doesn't really sum up the films plot all too well. A couple of aliens get caught on Earth by some evil military geezer and are held captive in an Area 51 type area...oh wait it is Area 51. There, alongside other captured aliens, they are forced to build this big death ray laser gun thing to destroy planets. Why? because the evil human military leader is evil and wants to...plus the Roswell aliens killed his dad in the infamous Roswell crash. Clever huh? no not really you're right. So as you may have already guessed this CGI animated film contains almost every clichéd cheesy cornball sci-fi in-joke and visual gag you can imagine. The entire film is completely pointless in the fact that the whole thing has been done time and time again and there really is no need for this to exist. The main alien characters just look dull, completely dull and lifeless blue clichéd aliens. All the alien sidekicks they meet up with are your bog standard array of yet more clichés...a slimy alien, a big strong angry alien and a cute little furry alien, all bases covered. I guess the real crime here (lame plot and character design aside) is the really really average CGI animation. The backgrounds, skies, spacescapes and landscapes all look nice, nothing to blow your eyes from their sockets but they are nice. But in general most of the locations/settings, all the characters, the equipment on display and alien planet terrain/city all look pretty damn generic and bland. Lets just call it planet bland with lots of interstellar alien logos, yep the aliens in this have their own TV stations, sponsors, adverts etc...just like us! its all very crap. The voice cast doesn't boost your moral put it that way, you know to be weary when Brendan Fraser gets the lead role lets be honest. The story is weak and pointless, the visuals are bright and colourful but sorely lacking quality, few laughs to be had, drab characters and rather limp action sequences. This really is a poor man's 'Monsters vs Aliens' in every sense, feels more like a glossy kids cartoon for a dreary rainy Saturday afternoon.Considering this is all about aliens and space adventure its virtually grounded on Earth for the whole run time, not much escaping going on anywhere.3/10
Steeve McCauley Okay, let's see. Animation, pretty good, I'll give it a 7. Plot, not bad, another 7. Characters, pretty likable ... how about 7 for this one too. Family fun -- my 4 and 7 year old kids liked it, but didn't rave over it, not like Despicable Me 2 -- another 7. Hrm, it looks like this movie should be rated 7/10 if we average these individual ratings. So why, you may ask (but probably won't), do I want to give this film a 3/10? The reason, dear readers (assuming again that anyone will ever read this) is simple, they got the plot, but forgot how to tell a story. There was no suspense, in a plot that should have been driven by suspense, I mean, it's about an escape. Every time one of the films heroes encountered anything resembling an enemy he or she was immediately caught. Plots require suspense to bring them alive. So, while the writing was average, the pacing of the film was horrible with few surprises along the way, something (anything) to cause the viewer to feel some level of angst about the characters' predicament. Scortch lands on earth and gets caught by the bad guy. Gary lands on earth, drinks a slurpee and gets caught by the bad guy. Gary's wife tries to rescue him and gets caught by the bad girl. Gary's kid tries to get away from the bad guy but gets caught. At least he finally displays some moxie and frees his mother with his roll of explosives. As written this film should have been called "Aliens are Caught but Escape in the End", but I would prefer if the writers had injected a bit of suspense and a few chases here and there. I'm surprised the Weinstein's let this one out the door in this state.
