Aedonerre I gave this film a 9 out of 10, because it was exactly what I expected it to be.
Juana what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
noradorian I'll be brief. I waisted too much time watching this, so I won't waist even more writing a long review. I gave a star because I liked the Cuba song, but that's it. For the rest, such a bad bad bad... EVERYTHING: casting, choreography, acting, directing...etc etc... I wonder what Patrick Swayze had to do with this pathetic imitation of a wonderful memory. They could have picked up another actor, same category with the rest just to fit with their script and leave Patrick S. alone. It was very very disappointing. I could watch "Dirty Dancing", the original one, endlessly ... but this Havana thing... I made a big effort to resist watching it till the end... If you want to see a good movie, pick up the first Dirty Dancing. Simply like that.
Mobus Dorphin I did not think that it was possible to make a movie worse than the original Dirty Dancing, but as I watched this movie I was amazed that the impossible was done, those who made this film did indeed manage to create a piece of garbage worse than the first Dirty Dancing. The acting was cheesy, the plot was pointless, and the characters were all giant morons. OHNOES MY RACIAL STEREOTYPE DOESN'T ALLOW ME TO DANCE LIKE THOSE PEOPLE DANCING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET IN THE MIDDLE OF A SCORCHING DAY IN HAVANA WHATEVER SHALL I DO.Seriously, skip this one. Unless you like watching truly terrible movies, in which case I highly recommend this, Titanic (The famous one with DiCaprio and Winslet), and any movie that contains Drew Barrymore in it, especially ones with Adam Sandler as well (or Jimmy Fallons pretending to be Adam Sandlers)
brianmartin101 Romola Garai did a bad job on the American accents. Few times I could hear the British accent slip through. The scene on the beach where she tell Javier that he was making a different to his family, could hear the English accent coming through plus the scene when she telling Patrick Swayze she trying to feel free and dancing like an Iron board was bad. A few times she let slip up when trying American accent. The plot of the film was weak. The dancing was crap. I didn't like the mixing of modern music with the 1950s style setting that spoiled the movie. The ending of the movie was bad. The only good thing was the Cuban music in the film. As for Luna dancing skills he wasn't very convincing dancer since he and Romola only had ten week's lessons before shooting the movie. The other dancers in the movie showed up Luna lack of dancing skills
concussedcs Yes, the original is much better, I'm not denying that, but if you are a big fan of dance flicks, then this is a must watch.Katie Miller is an American who moves to Cuba in her senior year at high school. She is fascinated by the way the locals feel the music while they dance. She meets Javier, a Cuban, who is a great dancer. She partners with him for a Latin ballroom dance contest, and soon finds herself falling in love with him.The film has lovely choreography, and highlights the Cuban Revolution which takes place during the movie. You may not like the film if you completely love Dirty Dancing, but it's worth a watch.
