Reviews
MamaGravity good back-story, and good acting
CrawlerChunky In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
Ginger Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
Skyler Great movie. Not sure what people expected but I found it highly entertaining.
Queen_of_pentacles So there are these poorly produced movies ,just like Bollywood in Hollywood too ?Unbelievable car chases, blasting and fires and bullets and what not , but the body builder hero manages to skip every time, along with the good looking , kidnapped woman, who doesn't do any thing, except smiling cutely at the macho hero, as if she is too willing and quite eager to get in bed with him; Of course, after all the chase is mercifully over, to the relief of the viewers as well ! Phew !Far from plausible, sensible, or practical, this just another cheap flick, and i would say ,even worst than any Bollywood movie, it would be a pain in the arse to sit in a theater and watch till the end. With some good editing, sensible direction, and more realistic visual effects , the movie could have been passable; Good for enjoying a goof and unintentional comedy !
rockdalecop I'm a fan of Doph, but this movie was lame. It did have cool explosions and stunts, but thats it. The story is similar to The Russian Specialist, which in my opinion is far better. One thing I've come to appreciate from Danny Lerner's movies is the fact that a lot of stuff gets blown up. In my book that is a plus. In this movie the fights did not look too convincing. The Russian dude in the beginning of the film in the jail, gets his ass kicked by Dolph within the first few seconds and he just sat there and took it. I've seen the same Rusian dude in other films and he kicks ass. Dolph looks in great shape, but his moves appear slow as if the editing or choreograph was not all there. But then again, I'm not a movie maker. Dolph has been in somewhat of a slump with films like Diamond Dogs, Missionary Man, Direct Action and now this. I think the films he's directed himself are far better...
wildheartyea Spoilers Spoilers. My comments will contain spoilers. Ill be going through the entire movie. You have been warned. Now, this is a first for me. The movie bugged me so much I actually have decided to write my first critique/comment ever! :PI was surprised to see our hero in a poster. I mean, he's old news you know. But thats not where i start complaining :D It starts with the way he walks into the bunker and holds his gun. Make that how he handles all his guns :P Next its how he handles the thugs. Bad acting or Old school acting. And lets talk about the grenades :D In the scene where they're at the stadium the grenades blow in front of the army men and they don't fly away. It blows right in front of them! But when they're in that abandoned building near the American Embassy, they go out FLYING! Then we go back to his godly aim. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO old school acting. I can't decide if I'm angry or simply annoyed! Even James Bond puts in more effort and he's MI6! :P Even when they were at the slums when he was being pursued by the army in jeeps, they still fail to kill him. And they're maybe 30ft away? In a STRAIGHT HALL WAY. It's tight and with no room to maneuver. Yet they bullets seem to go everywhere except them :S The cheesy line "How's your wound?" that turns into a love scene -_-" Speaking of which, any1 noticed how the the sounds that come out of her in the first 10min are all moan-like? It's like watching a porno movie where the hot big boobed female prisoner struggles against the shackles of her hot well built jailer :S I mean come on! Finally, the cursing. I get the constant needless cursing that one hears or sees in alleys with gang members. This isn't a racial thing btw. All those rappers or wannabe ppl, little kids in a gang member wearing blue or red bandannas with a gun 2inchs from their gentiles :P So why do they include cussing in their sentences? Who do they think they are? :S Honestly, I don't like cursing ESPECIALLY the one that just comes out of u for no good reason. But if you watched the movie you'll know what I mean. This is a second rate/hand movie. So why is it in theater? :S
Argemaluco I have tried on some occasions to writing reviews about some films starred by Steven Seagal, but the truth is that they are all so similar (and so execrable) that I do not find enough enthusiasm for writing about them.I thought that because of its supernatural elements,Against the Dark would be more ambitious and entertaining...however,the film resulted to be absolutely tedious. So,when I was about to abandon the action films made straight-to-DVD,I watched Direct Contact,a film which,in spite of having various fails and being very far away from the greatness,is entertaining. Most people must remember actor Dolph Lundgren for his role of Ivan Drago in Rocky IV or as the villain from Universal Soldier. On this decade,he has only appeared on action films made straight-to-DVD and although he is not as prolific as Seagal, the quality of the movies he participates is much better.Direct Contact is the most recent example of that because,at difference of the movies starred by Seagal,it made me have a good time with its traditional formula and dynamic development.Lundgren does not try to hide the fact that he is 51 years old.At the difference of Seagal,he recognizes he is not a youngster anymore, and his performance reflects it at avoiding positions of invincible super man or immortal action hero. The screenplay shows the main character on a realistic way, because it does not portray him as a superhero. The main character is beaten multiple times and he is susceptible to making mistakes, being fooled or loosing fights.I truly appreciated that realistic attitude.Danny Lerner's direction is competent, because the movie has a good rhythm and the action scenes are well filmed. However,I had previously mentioned this movie has various fails. Most of them are on the screenplay, and the most important ones are the inconsistence of some things and very basic details which could have been corrected by paying more attention to the logic of the situations (for example : in order to face a suspicious North American agent not to fall on an ambush,Riggins -the main character- establishes a busy public square as a reunion point...and the first thing he does is taking out a gun to threaten the agent; was not that what he was exactly trying to avoid?).However,in spite of its fails,I recommend Direct Contract as an entertaining action film which is not memorable at all,but which works well for having a good time.
