The movie runs out of plot and jokes well before the end of a two-hour running time, long for a light comedy.

A simple tale of a son's affection for his mother and doing anything to stop interference. A short but sweet film which manages to mix comedic timing, hilarious jokes but at the same time reach levels of emotional maturity. John meets his perfect match at a mutual friends party but before a life of happiness and romance can ensue he must battle her quirky and over protective son Cyrus. When you first get into this film you expect a run of the mill comedy, nothing that hasn't already been made, but Cyrus manages to bring out great performances by comedic superstars John C. Reilly and Jonah Hill. They both manage not only to showcase their acting ability but there potential for leading roles, their on screen chemistry and battle is much like the one of Reilly and Ferrell in Step Brothers. You can never fault Marisa Tomei, an academy award winning gem who deserves more spotlight and leading roles and her role Molly proves that. The Duplass' showcase their ability to tell a genuine heartfelt story, and don't rely to heavily and the comedy to make the film entertaining. They strike a perfect balance of drama and laughter and the film deserves all the acclaim it receives. An outstanding example of comedy, romance and drama done right.

this is a beautiful movie..starting smoothly, the story follows through john and when he meets his dream girl molly (Marisa Tomei , which i believe is amazing & she put her character beautifully) who is perfect for her.she is the person whom he can depend on after his ex-wife leave him and then one night when he follows her outside of her house and then in the morning he meets molly's son.then what happens? a 21 year boy living with his single mom dealing with night terror and knowing his beautiful mom's getting bang by the man who has afro hair.. :p Jonah hill put the ''Cyrus'' character with his chubby little funny way.he knows what to do when the Scene comes.you can watch it,it will be worthwhile.there are some little humors which can be very enjoyable.

The Duplass brothers are known for films with a quirky sense of humor and a finely tuned grasp on realistic drama. Cyrus is just that, and it's just what you'd expect knowing anything about the Duplass brothers, or really just seeing the trailer. The film stars John C. Reilly as a divorced man who meets a woman at a party. The two become instantly close, and then she introduces her 21 year old son, Cyrus, to him. Cyrus quickly becomes a wedge in their relationship, playing a variety of mind games to make sure his mother doesn't fall for this new addition to he and his mother's lifestyle.Cyrus is poignant and real, but also a little dull. It does a good job at telling a very human story that plays up interesting human relationships. The problem is that it's a little too real, and lacks any kind of wow factor. It's so human and is such a mirror image of real life that it comes out bland and is devoid of anything that would make it less dull than real life. Throughout the film we basically can see what is coming at all turns. We know how these relationships will play out. There's nothing too astounding or too surprising about Cyrus.I give the film a lot of props for its script and it's collection of fantastic actors. John C. Reilly is great as always, Marisa Tomei is wonderfully believable all the way through, and Jonah Hill shows that he can fit into a more serious role very easily. All in all it's a perfectly cast film and the writing and directing shows obvious talent, but I just wish there could have been more to it. I like Cyrus and I don't regret watching it, but you can't go in expecting it to floor you or really be that great. It's just alright, and nothing special.

John, a divorced man not happy with his new life, cannot get over the fact his wife Jamie is no longer around. The couple have remained friends, so it is not surprising when Jaimie invites John to a party to get him out of his funk. That party starts as a complete disaster for John, who cannot get close to anyone. To drown his pain, he begins drinking a lethal combination. Full with liquor, he must find a place to urinate, so John decides to do it discreetly on the patio, but to his surprise, he is found in the act by Molly, who has also thought about doing the same thing. One thing lead to another, John falls hard for Molly. She is secretive about their meetings. Molly always comes to be with John, but one day he follows her, discovering where she lives. When he tries to surprise her, he gets a surprise of his own in the form of Cyrus, Molly's son! It is clear Molly has not discussed with Cyrus her new love interest. Cyrus is a highly intelligent young man. It appears as though Cyrus likes the new guy in her mother's life, but when John goes to look for his shoes, after spending the night, it becomes clear Cyrus is involved in its disappearance, although he denies it.Thus, the relationship between Molly and John begins. Cyrus does everything in his power to get them apart. One day Cyrus decides he has had it, announcing he is moving away. That is only short lived because he cannot stay away from his mother. Things come to a head at Jamie's wedding when the two men have a fight that ends up with John conceding defeat and moving away. Cyrus, realizing the void in Molly's life, does a complete turnaround, asking his rival to come back to be with his mother.Mark and Jay Duplass directed this black comedy, which they also wrote. The brothers show an innate sense for presenting uncommon situations in unconventional ways. The trio at the center of the film, are brought together when John meets Molly. They find they have a lot in common, but Cyrus, a young man who should have been on his own for quite some time, is not able to let her mother go. He has a plan of action to get the interloper away using whatever tricks he knows to accomplish that. Molly, in turn, must decide to be happy with this new man, or keep on catering to the son that has sucked all her energy by just staying home and expecting this situation to continue as long as he can manipulate it.What the creators of the comedy get is good all around performances. Jonah Hill, seen as Cyrus, is never overtly nasty, but he has his own ways to get what he wants. John C. Rilley does wonders with his John, a man that was rejected and now finds happiness. Marisa Tomei is perfect as Molly, the mother of a certain age who must choose between two men, each wanting and needing her love. Catherine Keener is also good as Jamie.
