A psychological, heart-wrenching love story that provides a unique and inside look at Charles Darwin. Torn between faith and science, he struggles to finish his legendary book "On the Origin of the Species," which goes on to become the foundation for evolutionary biology.

Reviews
Hadrina The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
Hayden Kane There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
Derry Herrera Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.
Billy Ollie Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
daoud260 I won't rate Charles Darwin nor its theory, but this movie presents badly its life and the story of its book, it's just some boring stories of his life. I decide to watch the movie when I knew that it's based on a book of one of his grandsons, and the second good thing that I like was the presentation of Darwin's Period in England. however, I think that this movie wasted my time.
estronbase When reading reviews I tend to skip both those awarding 1 star and 10 stars. So why am I risking the possibility of people like me not reading this review? The answer is simply that I believe 2 stars would be too many for this film.Although well made, it is full of misery, illness, death and more misery. I also feel cheated as there is so little of Darwin's wonderful work.I had expected a film about the wonders of nature, in fact this is all about the misery of bereavement.
Laakbaar This movie tells the story of a man and his wife struggling to cope with the death of their beloved and wonderful daughter Anne in 19th century England. This quiet, warm and rich film is filled with the details of their home and family life, their relationship ups and downs, their illnesses, their children, their emotional and intellectual life...and their grief. At times it becomes very moving. This movie is beautifully acted. It is riveting from the very start. The last biography I've seen to achieve this level of sophistication was "The Iron Lady".It happens that this is also the true story of Charles Darwin and his wife Emma in the years prior to the publication of "Origin of the Species". The film documents his epic struggle to overcome his physical and psychological turmoil to finish his manuscript. In addition to all this, we're treated to steady but measured doses of the content and background of his theories. You come away from this movie with a deep understanding of the background and social impact of his theory, one of the most important ideas in history. It seems Darwin knew from the start what his theories meant, and it shook him to the core. And of course, behind every great man....I'm thinking this movie is worth about 8.5. As often seems to happen, I don't understand the lower score on IMDb.
Nano Maciá I enjoyed this film. I am a biologist, and I found a vision of Darwin's life that I didn't expected. For me, the most interesting point of this movie is the focus on Darwin's feelings during just a segment of his life. I think that the main idea behind the whole story is Darwin's loneliness. Loneliness in the world of science, in the society, in marriage. Very powerful scenes. The face of Darwin's when Huxley says "you kill God" shows his inner conflicts; also, in my view, T. Huxley (T. Jones: excellent!) attitude suggest some encrypted envy! Something very difficult to transmit in a few seconds of film, but achieved! The scene with pigeons is very powerful too and with more than the direct meaning. In fact, many scenes have a second meaning, which make this film very rich. I did not expected historical accuracy, just a good film based on real events. So, I find something much better than what I expected. Bettany's performance was great. I only regret that Annie Darwin dead was shown. The absence would be more powerful. For this reason this film is not a 10. About the title: I think that simply refers to the creation of Darwin's book, so it is entirely correct and reflects in just a word the contents of the story. See a reproduction of a portrait of C. Darwin made by George Richmond in 1840. Paul Bettany in this film is really alike to the image in this portrait! I regret there is many reviews of this films saying that it did not reflect reality. I think that this is not the goal of art. Also, I regret that many reviewers say that this film is boring. I think that "Creation" is far away from boring. I will keep this film in my mind forever.
