Reviews
Colibel Terrible acting, screenplay and direction.
Odelecol Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
KnotStronger This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.
Melanie Bouvet The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.
ottawa_scuba_monkey I loved this movie from start to finish This movie was well written, well acted and well directed. The movie's depiction of "penal reform" was pure genius! The "no rape - let's dance" theme was surprisingly fresh. I laughed throughout the entire movie. This movie is definitely not for the kids ... but open-minded adult couples will get a kick out of this comedy. Well done ... bravo!
Saiyan_Prince_Vegeta This movie is pretty funny and for some reason you remember it very well after watching. I watched it like 7 years ago and still remembered many of the details from the movie and yesterday I watched it for second time. The movie has funny, simple humor, which can be understood in any language. It is not really realistic, so don't overthink things while watching it :) One thing for sure - this movie is completely underrated. It's a really good comedy but it's not as popular as it can be. Worth rewatching, especially in a company of friends
Sandcooler Throughout "Big Stan" I was constantly thinking about "Dirty Work", the debut film of Rob Schneider's SNL colleague Norm MacDonald. There's one scene in "Dirty Work" where Norm has just been violated and gives the rapists a good talking to. Every time I hear him say "what hurts the most is the lack of respect" I just crack up, it's probably one of the funniest things ever done with the subject. Apparently Schneider also watched that scene and figured: hey, why not just do prison rape jokes for 105 minutes, preferably with fewer laughs than in that one minute of "Dirty Work"? The studio said okay for some reason, and so he got to make a movie that features an Asian rapist going "here's comes the egg roll!". An even bigger problem though is that Schneider insists on giving this the atmosphere of an underdog tale, even though his character has no redeeming qualities. He sorta kinda becomes a better person in the third act, but that doesn't make up for him not getting beaten to a bloody pulp in the first two. It's also quite amazing to see how quickly David Carradine lost momentum after "Kill Bill", just four years after his glorious comeback he was already back to parodying himself in embarrassing bit parts like this and "Epic Movie". Kind of sad to see a cult legend go out like that, it's not like "Big Stan" wasn't depressing enough.
Jackpollins From start to finish, the new comedy Big Stan is way more original than most movies out there. Surprisingly, this great comedy actually stars Rob Schneider, who in this, is surprisingly hilarious. He plays Stan, a time share worker who gets arrested for fraud. Instead of automatically sending him to prison, the court gives him six months before serving a minimum of three years. He is afraid of being sexually molested in prison so in order to learn how to protect himself, he enlists the help of The Master (David Carradine), a professional kung fu fighter. Enter Stan in prison. The head of the prison is trying to build a place to do business with, and enlists the help of Stan. If Stan does that, he gets out after a year. Stan becomes the role model of the prison. If he says there shall be no violence, everyone agrees there shall be no violence. Rob Schneider is greatly natural in his role. Unlike with a lot of Schneider's previous roles, he doesn't go too over the top. Instead he is as calm and funny as ever. This movie thoroughly earns all the big laughs it gets. It is a perfect parody showing how ludicrous these prison films are. This is a great comedy definitely worth checking out if you have any sense of humor.
