Leofwine_draca NATIONAL LAMPOON'S ANIMAL HOUSE is a lively and likeable frat house comedy which may well be the best of its type; it's certainly the most entertaining I've seen, with John Landis' clever direction adding immeasurably to the fun of the proceedings. This is certainly a more enjoyable production than something like AMERICAN GRAFFITI, that's for sure; the kind of film to blow the cobwebs away. The film offers an ensemble cast of performers, all of whom put in energetic turns, none more so than John Belushi whose towering performance dominates the proceedings. Elsewhere, there's a mix of fresh talent (Tim Matheson, Karen Allen, Kevin Bacon) and more seasoned actors in support (the ever-dependable John Vernon and Donald Sutherland, for instance). The film is, like other NATIONAL LAMPOON features, essentially a series of sketches and set-pieces, but they feel fresh and funny, and there's never a dull moment.

MarkAmovie This film just does not hold up. I can without a doubt believe that at least up until 1990 this film probably was one of the funniest around, but once the Robin Williams, the Jim Carreys and Eddie Murphy's broke out, this film lost it's touch. Credit given to the actors and all the people who worked on this movie as it probably was one of the very first films to tackle college life in a comedy setting like this. Belushi gives an incredible performance and for me is the only character that kept me in the film. The cafeteria scene is a truly great piece of film but for me that's as far as it goes.I think that everyone should at least see this movie once, but I don't think that I will watch it again anytime soon.

Mr-Fusion Gun to my head, I don't think I can come up with a better frat movie than "Animal House"; at least none that hold up so well today. It's bledssed with a cast brimming with future stars, John Vernon in one of his best roles, and John Belushi's devilish mugging for the camera.The script doesn't pull any of its punches, even in its anarchic finale. The humor's as low-brow as it gets, wonderfully depraved, and it's just one laugh after another. I love this movie.8/10 Speaking of Belushi, he comes perilously close to stealing the whole thing; even with Tim Matheson and Peter Riegert in the mix.

Tom Cheetham Animal House is the fantastic origin of an easy-watching genre of film. For a film that came out in the late 1970s the jokes and sense of humour throughout are very ahead of its time, and stands the test of time. Such an easy watch and a must see film for those, who like myself, are big fans of teen movies set within a college backdrop. Thoroughly enjoyable movie, and a great watch, not least for the importance of it for all future films of the ilk.
