Reviews
SpuffyWeb Sadly Over-hyped
Gurlyndrobb While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
Griff Lees Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
Allison Davies The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
timashworth04 So bad, I could only stand twenty minutes of this poorly cast, poorly directed movie. Why cast Bale (a young fit man) as a paunchy barely average con man? Amy Adams's girl next store beauty is totally wrong for the role of a stripper /con girl who rides the coattails of a loser. And Bradley Cooper looks like a Mediterranean pool boy with a fake tan and curly hair. The direction is poor, with dialogue erratically paced and the interaction of characters looking more like a stumble than a dance. Don't waste your time on this.
robl-4-298110 Let's start with my only two beefs: Either have a joisey accent or don't, as in, throughout the film, not intermittently. Jennifer Lawrence is merely OK and there's alot of better actresses out there and she would have been less annoying if she could have been more consistent, including yeah, the accent. To her credit, she does 'eccentric' really well. For gosh sake - Louis CK? He isn't that funny in the film which reflects the fact he hasn't been funny in a long time. The film does a great job combining drama, understated humor and a good amount of twists and turns. Frankly I was never sure during the middle of the film who was hustling who, which was highly enjoyable. Storyline works out well, and if you think it's over the top, the story is loosely based on the Abscam effort run by the FBI in the late 70s.Christian Bale is great in this as was Brad Cooper and Jeremy Renner.
garthlotel The mesmerising Christian Bale, as always, gives his very best to his role. The talented Amy Adams also does her best with a limited role. But I continue to be disappointed by the new breed of Hollywood "A-listers" including the congenitally awful Lawrence and one dimensional Cooper. Why do these two keep being cast in films? Why do they have fans? Lawrence in this role feels like a student hamming it up (badly) in a school play and, as usual, almost ruins the film for me. Cooper adds nothing but irritation and the occasional cringe. The film had potential but it needed a better cast of actors to bring the film to a higher level.
christianloteyro I just watched it earlier(01/19/2018). American Hustle was doesn't have a good story, and has so many characters that wasn't supposed to be there. The plot was so disappointing, but I like the 'hustle' meaning in this film though.Christian Bale is the only thing that made me stay watching the film, not that I'm a fan but I love his acting, he successfully deliver the character(not including the way that he made himself bigger/fat).Overall I rated it high even though the plot was not enough or lack, it's because of how great some characters that give themselves to it and made me feel the what the character is feeling, Big example is when Christian Bale (Irving) was talking with Jeremy Renner(Polito) and got chased out from their house because it's all his fault from the start.
