Reviews
Phonearl Good start, but then it gets ruined
Ava-Grace Willis Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.
Gary The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.
Guillelmina The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
dbborroughs Matt LeBlanc leads a commando squad into Nazi Germany to steal a copy of the enigma machine. Co-starring Eddie "I'm an action transvestite" Izzard this was a long time coming to the US. I have no idea if it ever got a theatrical release, but I'm sure it it did it lost money. this isn't to say the movie is bad, its not really, its just too run of the mill, guys in dresses aside. What can I say this is a situation ripe with comedy that doesn't really hit enough comedic moments. To be sure the action is fine and the film making is good, the problem is its so by the numbers that I could wander in and out while it was on and not feel I was missing something. Its like Matt LeBlanc's character who almost completes every mission he's on, its almost a good movie, thats almost funny. Put downs aside its worth a look if you like World War 2 movies, especially ones that are more than a bit off beat (even while remaining completely run of the mill). That should confuse you completely.
Will Franklin Even as an Eddie Izzard and Matt LeBlanc fan this film endures a few hardships in providing a really great war-drama-comedy. Even from the outset you can tell this isn't a major motion picture, (and the fact i brought it for £1 brand new from a national chain store backs that up). Despite this, the acting cast do a good job, with a few recognisable faces making well acted appearances. But the big problem comes with LeBlanc, because his appeal is primarily to an American audience and fans of 'Friends', and of course, he isn't playing Joey. The lack of subtitles for the German dialogue also didn't help for people like me who don't have an excellent grasp on the language, and this film features quite a lot of foreign dialogue. Nether-the-less the film does deliver something quite different, and funny in times, so isn't a total drag. Its worth a watch, maybe when you've got a couple of hours to spare, just like i did today!
ravensteals ... come on people, it's a comedy! And deserves so much more than its 3.4 rating. Eddie Izzard & Matt LeBlanc are in it for heavens-sake! And they're funny! They have to sneak into a nazi female run factory to steal the Enigma Machine. Eddie Izzard is accustomed to dressing up like a tart, but Matt LeBlanc catches up quick"! It's meant to be taken with a pinch of salt (as in; not seriously). Eddie is always funny, even when the rest of the movie hasn't much flesh to get your teeth into (I'm thinking of Disneys; 'The Wild' which is tragicly tragic except for Eddie Izzard who gives the voice to Nigel the trashy Koala). Matt LeBlanc probably got scared off by critics after this and went to hide in some cave and we haven't seen him since. If you guys hadn't bashed his attempts so hard, Matt LeBlanc would still be three inches tall trotting around our TV screens. But you lot have frightened him off - shame on you! LOL
Mikkel Breiler This film is worth seeing for some very simple reasons. In this WWII movie Germans speak German throughout the movie. They only speak English when they capture English people. ...Which doesn't happen very often. All the people in the movie who speak German do so very well, good casting of Germans to play Germans and English speaking for English speaking roles. All German sequences are not translated into English using part of the screen.Despite all the flak (pun intended) Matt LeBlanc does play well throughout the movie, and the bunch of people in their silly roles makes sense in the last 10 minutes of the movie, but it is rather comical until then. Enjoy it.Despite many details about life in Berlin at the end of WWII the movie has a major drawback, the reason for the silly outfit only becomes apparent at the end and if you leave before the end you will not think of it as such a great movie. I find it difficult to change the plot to suit people who would leave their seat midway, but after 25 minutes you really should stay. For the WWII film buffs out there are most likely a few oversights, but on the whole I enjoyed the movie on its own set of details.I expected a movie like this with LeBlanc to be a comedy, with a few minor plot changes and LeBlanc and his supports replaced with female ditto it would have earned a 9. I gave it 8 because it is a comedy which has all the details to pull off a straight drama but fails to deliver 100% on that account.
