TaryBiggBall It was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.
Plustown A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.
Asad Almond A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.
tonyem2004 I don't care that it didn't have a huge budget. This movie lifted my spirits, made me laugh, smile, cry light tears of joy and humbleness. It was heartfelt and well written. The acting was superb. There are so many high budget poorly written crap movies out there that keep you numb with loud noise and pointless chatter. This move moved me and I felt better after watching it. It takes you somewhere emotionally and I loved that. You FELT the feelings of the characters and believed it! I will add this to one of my favorite movies. I feel this is a nice movie to watch with someone you love. It even makes a cute date night movie or a great movie to watch with yourself or friends. It's positive and moves you in a way that is uplifting and I can guarantee that if you enjoy the movie, you will feel happier and appreciate your life more just by having watched it!
MotherMayI As an up and coming filmmaker I applaud anyone's effort in trying to make a film. But I liken this film to a sedative. This is my third time trying to get to complete it and I have yet to do so. It is still running now. I like the depth of the couple's relationship although I felt the wife was very manipulative throughout. But hey I give it to the writer director for being so honest about how she persuaded her husband to get the job done.I have to say this is my first low-budget film by a female that I am not especially fond of. Kassie Lemmons (Eve's Bayou) Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love and Basketball; The Secret Life of Bees) and the lady that did "Something New" I am all fans of their work but this will have to grow on me. I like her directing style. The acting and the close ups are an interesting effect as if she is trying to capture the acting but it was the story itself that provided no real motivation to watch, no real obstacle other than trying to get a movie made. This may be interesting for people like me but not for people who are not familiar or interested in doing so.Oh the movie's finished now and the credits are running but the ending is even less rewarding than the movie itself.
Aslesha The ending of the film states that "All About YOU" is the one that sold millions of DVDs. Notice that the title of the actual movie we, the audience, views is called "All About US." The film is in no way being dishonest to its viewers. It is the usual fictional ending that answers the question, "what happened to them?" Albeit in a somewhat cheesy way.It strikes me (as a novice critic) that this movie is based on, in some part, the actual writer and producer of the movies with a few departures, of course. But it is not meant to be taken as a literal re-presentation of Michael and Stacey Swansons' lives.Anyone choosing to rent this movie should know that it is a low budget film and that the movement and feel of it is precisely that. At the same time, the story line has a particular truth to it that most black audiences can relate to. It's about a young black couple striving to keep all of their dreams in alignment (for family, for success, for self). In the process of chasing after the golden nugget which happens to be Morgan Freeman, they discover something much more important about themselves.
waterpickle I just saw a screening of this movie and I thought it was really good. The story is of a struggling film producer and his writer/director wife. It is a well written story, and having met the director/writer, is semi-autobiographical, which I found amazing. I went into seeing this movie without any real idea of what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. It had the right amount of humor and reality without getting to cheesy. And Morgan Freeman really does make an appearance in this film! The film contains a lot of close up shots on the characters, but it works; it's a different style than I was used to. Although slow in some parts, overall the characters they meet and the plot really kept me interested in the film. It made me want to go out an rent the first movie, All About You.
