Arianna Moses Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.

Tss5078 With his utterly shocking debut film, L.I.E., Director Michael Cuesta, quickly proved that he wasn't afraid to push the envelope in order to shock his audience. That is why I was hesitant to see his other coming-of-age film, 12 & Holding. Thankfully, this film was more on the level and told a different kind of story, one that larger audiences can relate to. Rudy Carges (Conor Donovan) is an introverted 12 year old boy, who because of a facial deformity, does not socialize outside of his small circle of friends. A circle which includes a strong leader and protector, his twin brother, Jacob. One summer night, a bullies prank goes horribly wrong and Jacob is killed, leaving the group to find their own direction. As someone who recently lost someone close to me, this film really hit home, it was inspirational and a truly a wake up call. The film does an excellent job of showing everyone's grief from the family, right down to the furthest acquaintance, the type of lose and emptiness that people of all ages feel when a tragedy like this occurs, but then the film takes a turn. The three remaining members of the group realize, at their young age, that life is short and you never know what's going to happen, so they use the tragedy as the inspiration to turn their lives in another direction. Conor Donovan stars and it is miraculous that at his age he could play two completely different characters with such ease. The twins are so different, even though they are played by the same person. This is the kind of performance, actors three times his age can't pull off successfully, but Donovan does and it makes the whole film. Because of this role, the young Donovan actually got a role in the Departed, but hasn't been in much since then, which is truly a shame. 12 & Holding, actually uses actors that are the same age as their characters, and what these kids had to play through, and how they did so was truly phenomenal. IFC films have a reputation for being great, hard hitting stories, but this one really struck a nerve and the performances blew me away. If that's not the definition of a must see movie, than I don't know what is.

Indyrod This is one excellent movie, a kind of coming of age story, but then again, the stars of the movie are only 12 years old. A group of young friends have a tree house, and some older kids want them out of it, but when they try, the 12 years old dump a bucket of urine on them. That makes them very mad, and they come back much later setting the tree house on fire, not knowing two of the kids are inside. One of the twin brothers is burned to death, setting off a series of events that are very involving to say the least. This is one of the best acted movies of younger kids I have seen, depicting the torment they share with the loss of their dead friend, and how the twin's brother plans on killing one of the older boys that set the fire. The way they deal with tragedy and their kooky parents is absolutely sensational. Pick this one up, it's definitely a winner.

dkarter Most movies addressing the tween population miss the mark. This film does not, in fact, it is right on the mark. Mature issues are addressed through the minds and actions of young adolescents.Tweens are part of the ensemble and, therefore, they consider themselves as part of our society and need to be heard.This film clearly depicts the fact that children, their thoughts and opinions and subsequent actions are very significant to our society. There are remnants of a "columbine" type of feeling to this movie as the main protagonist "takes matters into his own hands".A strong and poignant story to watch, but as it rolls by you know that it is depicting reality in one way or another. victor-200 Because of these two stupid mistakes, a movie with some interesting qualities was ruined. Due to the oversight of the production team this is a really stupid movie.An overweight woman with a broken hip would not be able to move. Any person with a broken hip is completely immobilized 90% of the time. The only way the character's ability to move might be explained by adrenaline and extreme motivation.Natural gas isn't toxic. A gas leak in itself cannot harm the health of a person in any way. What can be toxic is carbon monoxide from improper burning of natural gas, but the burner in the movie was not ignited. The only other health hazard from a gas leak is the risk of explosion, but in the movie there was no explosion. This is a very ignorant oversight, also was used in 'Panic Room' with propane gas which is also non-toxic.A corpse buried in less than a foot of dirt would be extremely obvious to any construction crew. When the boy buried his victim the grave was too shallow to prevent the oder of a rotting corpse to come up from the dirt, and animals would have been attracted to the site by the smell and easily would have dug into the grave exposing the corpse. The oder alone would have been obvious and permeated the area for many yards.I also found it hard to swallow when the psychiatrist mom didn't drop her patient after learning that her twelve year old daughter was found standing naked in the patient's kitchen.Because of these stupid errors this movie is a dog, which is a shame since it's due to production errors alone.
