Reviews
Linbeymusol Wonderful character development!
Solemplex To me, this movie is perfection.
Kirandeep Yoder The joyful confection is coated in a sparkly gloss, bright enough to gleam from the darkest, most cynical corners.
Alistair Olson After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.
Rascar-Capac An amazing achievement! Made for TV on a small or at best medium budget, this little Scifi-Comedy-Romantic-Thriller is really worth watching. It has often been compared to the much more famous „Groundhog Day", with some critics even going so far, calling it a rip of. The latter is ridiculous, let alone because both films were produced at the same time. The one and only coincidence lies in the idea, that the main character is caught in a time-loop and has to live through one special day over and over again, while everyone else around doesn't. But 12:01 never leaves a doubt, that there is a reason behind all this – a scientific experiment, that went terribly wrong. Our hero Barry Thomas (great: Jonathan Silverman) we learn, is a minor employee at a High Tech Laboratory and he's having a really bad, bad day. His misfortunes are fun to watch first, but turn to tragic at the days end, when Lisa Fredericks (Helen Slater), a female scientist, he fell for, is murdered by Unknowns – for no apparent reason, it seems. The next morning the unbelievable happens: Barry learns, that he is going to relive his nightmarish yesterday. Fate has offered him a chance to find out, what really is going on in the laboratory and seek for a way to save Lisas life ... Apart from fine performances by Helen Slater and Martin Landau, there are a number of comedy side-characters such as those played by Robin Bartlett and Jeremy Piven, that add so much to films appeal. While the film moves elegantly between pure comedy, romantic drama and SF-mystery, the lack of production values or big action scenes never comes to the viewers mind. The only drawback to me seemed to be the films running time of only 90 minutes. One more time-loop could have built up even more suspense and in doing so, the script-writer might have saved the life of one of the films more lovable characters.
carsten-lehmann Wonderful. Ecxellent. Better than "Groundhog Day" in all times. See it! Helen Slater makes an excellent job. If You see her, You'll love her for that Movie! She should have done more jobs than this one, I think. Not to forget Jonathan Silverman. I think he's really underestimated as an actor. Because he plays this role very - very - wonderful: more charisma isn't needed for this role! The Movie: Great, as I've said above. Watch it and enjoy it. Theme: Everything's gonna repeat, and only one person is able to stop it. Like "Groundhog Day", but much better, because the actors do not know what's going on. Like the ad "Live everyday as if it's were your last". So go and like it!
thexfilez Barry (Jonathan Silverman) gets caught in a time bounce through an experiment that goes wrong at the company he works for. He becomes the only one that has the power to change the fate of others around him.Along the same lines as Groundhog Day. This movie was actually released before Groundhog Day from what I read. I really enjoyed this movie even though its quite a low budget movie. Jonathan Silverman and Helen Slater are great together. This movie is hard to get a hold off, I found a VHS copy at a video store for sale and snapped it up as its not for sale on DVD yet.If you like sci-fi and time travel type movies, this is for you.Happy Watching.
rabin_ Anyone foolish enough to try to compare 12:01 to Groundhog Day is not really paying attention. Don't watch this movie and expect ANYTHING like Ground Hog Day. 12:01 is an action movie, a mystery, and a romance. The only similarity with Groundhog Day is that the same day is repeated. There is NO comedy in 12:01. There is a very DIFFERENT message in 12:01 than in Groundhog Day. It is a movie about love, pain, loss and misplaced trust. NEVER make the mistake of comparing there two movies. 12:01 is a dark movie. Groundhog Day is crazy comedy featuring Bill Murray.Choose wisely, my son.
