    Mjeteconer Just perfect...
    GazerRise Fantastic!
Glucedee It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.
DipitySkillful an ambitious but ultimately ineffective debut endeavor.
Maniac-9 NewsRadio was a really interesting premise for a sitcom that being that it took place in the world of a news radio station. The show had a fantastic cast with Dave Foley, Stephen Root, Phil Hartman, Maura Tierney, Andy Dick, Joe Rogan, Khandi Alexander and Vicki Lewis which all clicked together on screen perfectly in tandem. The use of the cast as an ensemble and not overdoing the exposure on one character at the sake of the others was able to keep all of the characters fresh and give everyone plenty of screen time. The show not only had some very witty writing but also used physical comedy really well for a modern TV show(for example Matthew's being prone to fall over to start every episode).
Aaron1375 I do not wish to disparage Jon Lovitz, it has less to do with the introduction of his character that the show kind of fell apart at the end for me and more for the fact it just sort of depressing after the untimely death of Hartman. Bill McNeil was my favorite character on the show and while everyone else played their parts well it just was not the same without him. Before he passed on though this show was simply great and funny, though I have to say work related shows tend to be better in my opinion than shows that center around families and simply friends. The shows first episode is rather interesting as there are a couple of different things going on as the maintenance man is different and the whole appearance of the show was a bit off compared to the rest too. Still, it marked the beginning of a very good show that was cut short by most likely to many schedule changes and those copy cat shows that tried to emulate the early success of this one. That show Brooke Shields did during this time seemed almost a duplicate right down to the red head. The episodes in this one ran mostly hot, with the occasional cold episode. Most of the cast was on fire, however Andy Dick's character sometimes proved to be a bit to much. Khandi Alexander left a bit of void when she left, however the show probably had to many characters as it was so it probably was best she left as the show had enough people to focus on. My favorite episode though had to be when Dave got obsessed with playing that video game Stargate and I also like the one where Bill is locked up in the loony bin and Jon Lovitz was in that one too and did a good job. All in all a great show that ended prematurely.
TheEmulator23 I watched this show faithlessly every week. I again watched it when it was every day starting from the beginning until I'd seen it a few times through completely. I loved the story the acting was great, the casting, the love, hate, Phil Hartman, and the very young a very beautiful Maura Tierney known for both movies and her starring role in the last seasons of "ER." Of course most only remember that Phil Hartman's wife killed him, then herself in the middle NewsRadio's Run. The went another year or 2 but the show just wasn't really any good anymore without Phil. It took the life of Phil & the life of the show went with him. I would recommend watching the 1st 2-3 seasons, buy maybe skip the last too. It almost ruins it. The last minute Hartman friend Jon Lovitz as his replacement just doesn't work despite him trying his best. Both Hartman & the role were fit right for him & the show ran around him.
xtremevox It has been 6 years (I believe) since the demise of this show but it still remains one of the best sitcoms ever created. To those out there who have never experienced NR catch the reruns on A&E or better yet buy the first two season compilation that is coming out in May. The absolute perfect ensemble cast with a chemistry unlike any other they SHOULD have ruled the airways if NBC had any sense of what was great and what was crap. It is hard to forget Andy Dick's mispronunciation of "Buttafucco" on the radio air into what Dave said "of all the possible mispronunciation's you could have used you happened on the worst one." Think about it for a minute, LOL! Or how about when both Bill and Dave quit their vices together (Bill quit smoking while Dave gave up coffee.) To help Bill Dave went to his doctor and got him to prescribe the nicotine patch. Lisa said "Dave you don't smoke" to which Dave replied, "Yeah. I don't think he is a very good doctor." Then Bill decides to wear all of them at once around his waist and nearly has a heart attack. Oh geez, I could go on and on. It was one of the few shows wear I actually laughed so hard I had to leave the room. I couldn't breathe! Then when Phil Hartman died. Oh boy, just to watch the memorial show with all the cast members in obvious distress and Dave breaking down for real when he read "Bill's" letter saying "...take care of each other and I'll see you when you get to wherever I am now." The tears just wouldn't stop. And to show their respect to Phil, from that show on until the last show they ever did there was a picture of Phil on Dave's office desk prominently displayed. And always in the picture. Yes, the show died with Phil even though they tried to go on with Jon Lovitz. Jon, if you are reading this you did good. You tried your best to do good by Phil. It isn't your fault that the show lost its footing after Phil's murder. He was the foundation and you just couldn't stop the fall. Goddess bless you Phil, btw.Get/watch the reruns. This is one show that time will never forget.
