I saw this movie before reading any reviews, and I thought it was very funny. I was very surprised to see the overwhelmingly negative reviews this film received from critics.

Blending excellent reporting and strong storytelling, this is a disturbing film truly stranger than fiction

Excellent characters with emotional depth. My wife, daughter and granddaughter all enjoyed it...and me, too! Very good movie! You won't be disappointed.

If you like to be scared, if you like to laugh, and if you like to learn a thing or two at the movies, this absolutely cannot be missed.

Two stories per episode showing interesting and weird horror stories. Some are going to make you close your eyes, revolt your stomach and keep you watching for more.Could be better, but remember that japanese culture have a diferent concept of horror.

Unlike most anime series this one doesn't have a single story running through all twelve episodes or even the same group of characters. Instead each episode contains a couple of short horror stories which don't appear to have any connection to each other apart from the art style; at least until the final story when a couple of previously seen characters return. As one might guess from the title they are based on stories created by manga artist Junji Ito.The stories are nicely varied; most have a good degree of creepiness although inevitably some work better than others. I liked the art style; it suits the genre far better than the more traditional look of anime characters. Comments I've read elsewhere suggest it isn't as good as the original manga but as I've not read any of that I can't compare it; as a standalone work it is effectively creepy if not really scary. Overall I'd recommend it to those who enjoyed shows like 'Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories'.These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

Not as good as the mangas, but it still is pure Junji Ito. Should have been black and white.
