TrueHello Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
Siflutter It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.
Candida It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.
Jenni Devyn Worth seeing just to witness how winsome it is.
helen_york I started watching this on Netflix. I stopped watching this about 20 minutes in. Historical blunders everywhere! Just one example: In one scene men are using a two-man saw to cut a tree. They are sawing on the downhill side of the tree, which is NOT the way to do it at all. One would use an axe to cut a wedge out of the down side of the tree, then go uphill of the tree and saw on that side. The tree would lean downhill, and fall in the natural direction. The way the men are depicted trying to do it would only result in a saw stuck in the tree. Some will say, what does it matter? Sawing trees is not critical to the plot. But if the little details of life are wrong, the greater parts of this mini-series are also suspect. I couldn't stand to watch it. Bleh.
SnoopyStyle With its roots in the civil war in the Kentucky Virginia area, the Hatfields and McCoys feud is as epic as any in the literary world. That's why this series works so well. If Shakespeare is alive today, he would definitely write a play about them. This is iconic American history. Two veteran big name actors anchor this series. Kevin Costner plays the leader of the Hatfields, 'Devil' Anse Hatfield. Bill Paxton plays the McCoys elder Randall. By placing such steady hands at the helm, the foundations is set solid. This History channel production is shocking because of its great production value. It sets a new bar for the standard that we must expect from now on.
chew-kevin-m This movie proves that the combinations of: Inbreeding, Moonshine, Grammar School education, bad dental hygiene and lack of gun control, only leads to senseless death, hardship and genocide.Costner's performance is hardly worthy of a once academy award winning director/actor.This really won:TV mini-series; also producer Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Miniseries or Television Film Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie Nominated-Satellite Award for Best Actor - Miniseries or Television FilmUnbelievable..
alexandre michel liberman (tmwest) If one looks at the writing for this TV series , you cannot deny it is very good, but what really is outstanding is everything else. In this case you can say that the content is good, but the form is magnificent, the cinematography in Romania, the sounds of the guns and the battles, the action scenes, for the first time in many years I think there is a chance westerns might become popular again. The film tells the story of the feud between the families, which ends up in a real war. One might ask if they could not guess that for every killing there would be an equivalent or even greater response. So they were basically destroying themselves. What is the point of that? Preventing a massacre on the side that shows weakness, I guess…This series has what "Deadwood", in spite of all that was positive in it, lacked: a great style.
