althuberjohanna I don't understand why this show is getting so much hate here, i do have to say that the first season was kinda lacking but it gets better with every season. If you want something realistic doe you have to watch something else, but if you want something with drama that pulls you to the edge of your seat i think this is the right thing for you. I find it kind of ridiculous that some reviews here pointed out the "thug" like behavior as a negative cliché trademark, even if the main characters literally come out of the ghetto. I think it's good that a show with people of colour is getting so much attention it points out the racial discrimination black people are still going through, how difficult it is to be gay and black, the show combines real issues with fake drama and has become one of my favorites.(exuse me for possible spelling mistakes English is not my native language)

rleeshelton-11447 The only reason this is not a 10 out of 10 is because sometimes the music performed by the characters is a bit much and does not add to the episode. The haters who leave these reviews need to relax. Crying about the show not being realistic is ridiculous. Its a damn television show, go sit in the park if you want to watch reality. "Reality" TV isn't even realistic. The casting was fantastic. Even though some characters get on my last nerve each one is played perfectly. I am obsessed with Cookie Lyon. Although she is out of her mind, it is fantastic to see a strong powerful woman who does nothing but fight for what she wants, even if it means burning everything around her. Although I said the amount of music incorporated can be a bit much it is a great sound track. The first song the middle son Jamal does, even though the origin of the lyrics it has caused a frenzy in these reviews, I had to download it immediately. This show is addicting and the newer seasons are just as good as the first. I think we can all agree that if you do not like a show and are up in arms over the context then do not watch it. Do not "give it a few more episodes" there is enough TV shows on Netflix and Hulu to find something you will enjoy.

LGBen The first season of Empire was entertaining ... now it is just silly/stupid - no longer worth watching. The characters have become too extreme. Racist portrayals are disturbing. For a family that supposedly is close, there is far too much back stabbing and maneuvering - especially since they are portrayed as being hoodlum-like. One expects more character elimination and less soap opera drama. Without major improvements, I don't expect Empire to last much longer. BORING AND TEDIOUS.
