Huievest Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.
Calum Hutton It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...
Raymond Sierra The film may be flawed, but its message is not.
Aspen Orson There is definitely an excellent idea hidden in the background of the film. Unfortunately, it's difficult to find it.
pensman If you are in the modern demographic that TV and movies are aiming for (16-35), then move on. But if you have been around the block far too many times, and find that age has reduced your "friendships" to a handful of friends, then you are the target audience for Boomers. It helps if you can laugh at your self to really enjoy these characters because you know them too well. The familiar are here, the bored husbands, the well-intentioned but bossy wife (wives), and the endless semi-joyless days of retirement. Admit it, the golden years aren't golden for everyone. Here those irritants get played for good natured laughs. Comedy based on real issues—an aging is as real as they get—can hit close to home, and I suspect more than one sixty plus boomer has cast a baleful eye at the spouse while watching this series. Good cast and they play off of each other well. I was pleased to see Philip Jackson, the intrepid Inspector Japp from Poirot. Others you might recognize from some of their mouth youthful roles: I recall Stephanie Beacham (The Colbys and Dynasty) and her Playboy photo spread. And the series has a great sound track that changes from episode to episode but someone does a great job matching the song to the prevailing theme.
petermcginn-12575 I sought this series out because of its cast. We are in the U.S., but we mostly watch British shows, so a lot of the ensemble actors here were familiar to us.My wife and I found this to be an entertaining enough show. No, it is not in the same league as some of the great comedies in recent years, like Gavin and Stacey, but those sitcoms are the exception, not the rule. These characters did seem predictable at times and even two-dimensional, but there is a chemistry between them that I hope the writer and actors can build upon when a second season gets underway.A couple other reviews give this 1 or 2 stars and all I can say is - let me send you a few other show titles that I consider to be rated that low and see if you can survive even one episode. Someone compared Boomers unfavorably to Last Tango in Halifax, which is perhaps unfair as that great show is a comedy drama, and the drama is written and acted superbly. This show is not aiming at drama or at cutting edge humor. It seems like an old fashioned sort of sitcom, the laid back sort many of us don't have the patience for anymore.
Victoria Thomas I am watching a lot of good actors that seem to be stuck in a farce. It cannot be compared with the excellent Last Tango in Halifax. Crap, utter crap.Apparently I need to have 10 lines in order for me to express my displeasure. Fine. I suppose that I am annoyed because these poor sad buggers are in my age group, and the characters they portray are caricatures of real people. Hoping it will improve, because there are a lot of actors in it that I admire greatly. Stay tuned ..... If you can be bothered! June Whitfield has just said she can't be bothered, and, thinking about it, neither can I.How this got onto the BBC, I will never know.
whitedwarf2013 What a complete waste of time. I did not laugh once, the program is supposed to be a comedy, and believe me I have seen just about every comedy sitcom and movie ever, but this was just ridiculous. I cant even compare it to anything as it's just a bunch of people talking, no jokes, no subtle one liners, nothing exciting happening, no story NOTHING. You could easily put this on to help you sleep... if it wasn't so tedious!O look that silly woman is waving her phone around again trying to get a signal... O was I supposed to laugh at her idiocy there?Do not waste your time on this, you have been warned!
