Reviews
Matrixston Wow! Such a good movie.
Contentar Best movie of this year hands down!
HottWwjdIam There is just so much movie here. For some it may be too much. But in the same secretly sarcastic way most telemarketers say the phrase, the title of this one is particularly apt.
Edwin The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.
evesariah Such a happy movie, and funny! A must-see for all SRK fans, his acting is always spot-on, and Juhi Chawla does a wonderful acting job as well. The two of them really work well together. The outfits are obviously a bit dated, but it's all part of the fun. 'Main Koi Aisa Geet Gaoon' is such a lovely, romantic song from this movie. It's a classic, funny Bollywood chickflick! One I definitely plan on owning, and could see again and again. Some say this is a version of a movie that's already been done, or the storyline is similar.. But who cares? It's light, and colorful, and full of goodness. This movie is sure to make you smile :)
phoenix1861-1 I just love it. It's funny and feel-good, but also very touching, heartwarming and heartfelt in quite a few scenes. Lots of close-ups, which is nice. I loved the scene where Rahul and Seema sit on the porch and the tipsy Seema inadvertently jabs Rahul in the eye and then blows softly at his face to relieve his pain. It's so sweet -- those close-ups of them, and you see that she starts to realize her love for him. Aziz Mirza has become one of my favorite directors because of these sweet touches, romantic and realistic at the same time, that he puts in his films. And there are other such lovely scenes sprinkled throughout the movie. The ending is just hilarious, I appreciated it a lot. And what can be better than a wet, sweaty, bloody SRK fighting for his love? In the "fluffy romantic comedy with a message" category I'd give it a 10, and I only gave it 9 because I didn't like the first half when I watched it for the first time. Somehow, it seemed a bit boring. But then things picked up in the second half and I loved the ending as I said. When I watched the movie for the second time, I loved all of it, every single scene. I've got this problem -- I usually don't notice the music the first time round. And because Hindi is not my native language I couldn't understand what they were singing about, so the music numbers seemed a bit boring at first. Then I listened to the songs again, checked out the lyrics and translations on the net and I absolutely love all of them now, particularly Main Koi Aisa Geet Gaaon, Ek Din Aap, Chand Taare, well, really, all of them! They just lift my mood invariably.I find I really like SRK's 90-s films, though I was very wary of them at first. Though not as slick and glossy as those of the 2000s, those films had a sort of innocence and a lot of heart to them. Or it's just my nostalgia and shahrukhism, I really don't know.
Peter Young Yes Boss is one of my favourite Hindi romantic comedies of the 1990s. It is a very charming film and provides a thoroughly pleasurable and enjoyable watch. The film is about Rahul (Khan), an ambitious guy works as the assistant of the manipulative, married yet womanising businessman Siddharth (Pancholi). Rahul's loyalty to his boss is unlimited, and he does everything for him, even arranging his appointments with women. Siddharth, in turn, promises to help Rahul become an independent businessman in the corporate world. The real conflict occurs when Rahul falls for Seema (Chawla), a young model who instantly catches the eye of Siddharth. Knowing that his boss does not even take her seriously and that he is the one who should play the matchmaker in the story, Rahul now has to choose between his dreams to make it big and succeed, and his love for Seema. This concept was very interesting and it was brilliantly executed on-screen, infused with a lot of comedy, romance and even light suspense. But most importantly, it must be noted that it is not only an extremely entertaining flick with many hilarious moments. This movie has soul. The principles presented in this film are remarkable. Rahul strives for success because he wants to make his mother happy, and it is evidenced in many sequences throughout the film. Juhi Chawla's Seema is an aspiring model, yet she comes across as a very simple and gentle young woman who has great values and who, like Rahul, has dreams of finding success in life. These two characters are extremely well-written and I find them very easy to relate to. The story shows, satirically yet substantially, how often we tend to lose ourselves when we try to make our dreams come true.Shahrukh Khan and Juhi Chawla have a fantastic screen chemistry, and they complement each other very well. They both have something very unique about them, they have wit, sensitivity and humour. Shahrukh Khan is just extraordinary in this role. I cannot imagine any other actor playing Rahul as naturally and skillfully as he did. Khan always particularly excels in roles like this, where he plays the simple, sensitive, generous, happy and struggling middle-class guy. He is convincing, extremely likable, and seems to be tailor-made for this part. This role reminds me of his unforgettable character in Kundan Shah's masterwork "Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa", and like the latter, this is one of my favourite performances of Mr. Khan. Beautiful and vulnerable, Juhi Chawla is astonishing and enchanting as Seema. She displays both decisiveness, liveliness and confusion, and shows many sides of her personality, including dreaminess, love, anger and compassion. The growth in her character is believable, and as expected she is splendid in comic sequences.Other cast members are good. Aditya Pancholi manages to be as hateful as his character requires. Kashmira Shah is pretty good in a small role and she is so gorgeous that many would wonder how her husband even thinks of cheating on her. Reema Lagoo and Johnny Lever do their usual stuff. One more aspect that significantly contributes to the film is undoubtedly Jatin-Lalit's memorable soundtrack. Every song stands out. "Ek Din Aap" is very melodious and soothing; "Main Koi Aisa Geet" is very romantic and is brilliantly pictured on Khan and Chawla as he tries to entertain her and finally succeeds; "Choodi Baji Hai Kahi" is joyful and is beautifully shot across some breathtaking locations. "Chand Taare" is very pleasant. "Suniye To" and "Jaata Hai Tu Kaha" are very catchy. Yes Boss is one film I can watch again and again and always be excited and entertained. It is a delightful and memorable picture, and I highly recommend you to see it.
ames007 This film is essentially a remake of the Michael J Fox film "For Love or Money" aka the Concierge. The story is identical, allowing for the "Bollywood-isation" with songs, dances, and really terrible comedy pieces.
