Matcollis This Movie Can Only Be Described With One Word.
GazerRise Fantastic!
KnotStronger This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.
Sammy-Jo Cervantes There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
btzarevski Utter, complete, total garbage! STAY AWAY PLEASE! I am lost for words to describe just how belittling and patronizing this is. I've noticed that one reviewer commented on the "classic" scenes such as 'I'm My Own Grandpa' or something like that...well I just saw this supposed masterpiece of a scene and it is pathetic.I can understand that this movie is being deliberately stupid but that is exactly what bugs me. The acting and the supposed funny moments are clearly fake, predictable, overacted, clichéd and not funny. Dumb & Dumber for instance was also about two abnormally stupid guys but there was a sense that the movie allowed for you to pick up the stupid moments-and yes, while they weren't hard to pick up at least it wasn't in-your-face-turn-at-the-camera-and-over-emphasize-the words type of moments.Furthermore, in Dumb & Dumber while the two main characters were stupid, nobody else in the movie was. Here, EVERYBODY in the movie is as stupid, dim and dense as the main 'characters'. And at least D&D had a degree of realism in that as stupid as the main characters were, their low-life lifestyle matched them. Here, the Stupids are a well-off family yet utterly useless! I realize I may be babbling but movies like this irritate because I fail to see why people bother making them and in so doing insult moviegoers to such a degree. There's no no pint in "taking intelligence out of the equation" as one reviewer noted because if a movie can be funny and entertaining with a degree of intelligence in it, why should you take intelligence out of this movie? Is it because the makers had none themselves and were too lazy to put in an effort with this movie? It's a crime to call this a comedy or a movie. The animated pets and aliens at the end utterly made me lose the plot! I only watched about 20min and I was left irritated for days. It is annoying and a waste of time...you'd have a better time listening to your plants grow.
Amy Adler Stanley Stupid (Tom Arnold) and his wife, Joan, like to sleep in bed with their heads under the covers and their feet on the pillows. They have two equally challenged children, Buster and Petunia. One day, Mr. Stupid notices their garbage is gone again....there must be someone stealing it from the curb. He goes off in roller blades after the garbage truck. When he finally gets to the dump, he is startled to learn not only that "other folks garbage" has been stolen, too, but that there is a secret organization meeting at the landfill. He is determined to defeat the garbage nappers of the world, it seems. Meanwhile, Petunia and Buster visit the police station and a Chinese restaurant in search of their parents, for Joan comes up missing, too. Will they bumble their way through their problems? This is just a stupid, stupid movie, with the culprit being the terrible script. The books by Allard and Marshall are hysterical and only a couple of situations from the books ends up in this film. Arnold is actually quite nice as Mr. Stupid and the other cast members try very, very hard to make the film work. The production values are very high, with the dog and cat belonging to the Stupids adding a little oomph to the film. But, it is all for naught, as the plot is wandering and weak. Perhaps, someday, someone will take another stab at translating the very funny Allard books to the big screen. Therefore, if you love to laugh, rent something else while you await a new production and, by all means, go get the books, too. But, stay away from being stupid yourself, as anyone who watches this movie to the end could hardly be called intelligent.
trish_kiwi We loved this movie, but it is unavailable down under, will still keep trying to get a copy, but it was one of those movies that kept us laughing all the time. I bet we can all relate to some of those characters in the movie and at some time in our lives we have done some strange and hilarious things as well. My children loved the movie as well and as I say we cannot get it here anymore which is a shame, will have to wait until it comes on television again. Go The Stupids. Love that movie. I do not know much about the director of The Stupids John Landis, what other movies had he done? I still can't believe it didn't get good ratings, like another movie shown here Rat Race, we loved that as well, goodness what do movie critics want in movies, do they want them to entertain us which The Stupids did, and I for one was entertained, sometimes I think the movie critics are too harsh. Loved the dresses the girls wore too, very 50's, also loved the scene in the planetarium where they think they met up with God. At least we could have a laugh.
Dan Gould Only rent or buy this if you like the sort of humour displayed in movies like Kung Pow and Mr. Bean. This movie is so stupid that even veterans of the slapstick comedy genre will be cringing. Just look at the quotes and you'll have some nice examples of what I mean. "MAN BUSH, you have no equal!" The plot is interesting - Stanley Stupid wakes up one day to discover his garbage stolen again from right outside his own home. Determined to find those responsible, he sets off on a quest to find a man called Sender, who through... crazy and foolish logic, he believes is planning a worldwide conspiracy to steal the world's garbage.Along the way he uncovers a military weapons distributing operation, which forms most of the opposition in the plot, as they try to kill him repeatedly, and through sheer stupidity and luck, he evades them. You can't accuse the story of being cliché or unoriginal - not many movies involve meeting God in a planetarium. The characters are all uniquely stupid, and while their clothes are as unpleasant as fashion can be, they're all very entertaining. Except the daughter, who may annoy more than entertain, but you get those in every movie. All in all, as long as you're looking for a film with humour so.. STUPID, you'll wet yourself, then you'll probably laugh yourself silly watching this. I first saw it back in 1997 or so, and only managed to find the video last year on ebay. It's a fairly rare video, I think, but I'm hoping it'll come out in Region 2 DVD before long :) Rent/Buy? The humour can be a specialised taste. I'd recommend renting it, but if you can buy it for a reasonable price, I recommend buying it in case you do like it, because it's pretty rare.
