Reviews
Thehibikiew Not even bad in a good way
Holstra Boring, long, and too preachy.
Myron Clemons A film of deceptively outspoken contemporary relevance, this is cinema at its most alert, alarming and alive.
Matylda Swan It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties.
DCfan This is defintly one of my top favourite anime movies I have seen. I have watched both the Disney and the UK dub and I like both dubs but I think Sho/Shawn's voice actor was a miscast as the character because the character had a russian accent instead of an american thats why Tom Holland (Spider-Man Homecoming) did better but for the voice of Pod I prefer Will Arrenet (Lego Batman,Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) but Mark Strong (Green Lantern) is okay as Pod. However for the voice of Arriety I think both voice actress were cute and pitch for the voice of the character. In both dubs the characters had an equal amount of miscasts. As for the story it was just beautiful how a relationship between a human and a borrower can form it is sad though that they had to movie because they were discovered and at the same time Sho was going through pain because of his heart operation. My overall view beautiful movie. Must watch you won't regret it.
Ramneek Suri Now this was a nice pleasant watch to be sure with some eye catching visuals. However I watched it after watching two of Ghibli's masterpieces - my neighbour Totoro and Kiki's delivery service. And this film suffered a bit in comparison. The villain is lacking in motivation- he (or she) just seems plain evil, something unusual in a studio Ghibli film. Still very competently made.My score is 7/10
jackallen-67055 Based on the Mary Norton novel, this is one anime film you ought to see. One of the few movies that was mixed as a background film, it's more than you think of it. To put the animated film in a simple way, it's a beautifully crafted, intimate adventure movie and — presented in hand-drawn 2- dimensional — one of the most visually arresting you'll enjoy all year. It didn't get much attention as Spirited Away, Your Name, or Howl's Moving Castle, but it's not the worst of the anime bunch. The beauty of anime movies is that they have such depth and heart, and this film is a perfect example. There are some cons to this film, but they're very little. One thing is that David Henrie, doesn't sound like himself at all, according to my sister. And like most films, it kind of takes me a long time to figure out which actor is which.
hayashimegumi I have not read the book but The Secret World of Arrietty (2010) has awesome concept and tiny humanoid creatures called the borrower. They are a little like ants and there are so many adorable tiny DIY creations such as stamps as wall decors! Not going to spoil it too much but I think this animated feature could made several if not many innocent, curious children leaving sugars or sweets and double sided tapes for the borrowers! (Borrowing is joy to them but sadly not for all us in reality as it is not a norm!)Although the animated feature is not entirely realistic, it is still quite beautiful and entertaining. When compared to other previous directorial debuts, this is certainly one of the better ones from Studio Ghibli (unlike Tales of Earthsea) even though there are some illogical scenes. Finally, this review is based on the Japanese version of The Secret World of Arrietty (2010). The song is moving and the atmosphere could be sad. The short adventure and friendship can be satisfying if you are genuinely interested with fantasy. If the author of The Borrower is still here with us today, she would be so happy and proud of Hiromasa Yonebayashi's The Secret World of Arrietty (2010) because the anime adaptation directed by the new Studio Ghibli director does not disappoint!
