Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.

The acting is good, and the firecracker script has some excellent ideas.

Money over everything
at least that's what the Siegel family believes. In "The queen of Versailles", a witty and fun documentary about the Siegel family, David Siegel - a 78 year old and multi millionaire , is the whole reason any of this is happening. The family decide that they want to build a mansion that resembles Versailles. The mansion would've been 90,000 square feet complete with an ice skating rink and a health spa. The story then moves over to David's life and it tells us about how he decided on his timeshare idea and his newfound wealth. Moreover, we learn about the Siegel kids. They talk about how they are so excited to move into the new house because the one they are living in is too small even though it has 10 bathrooms. We then take a closer look at the timeshare company. There are 23 buildings in 11 states. In the climax of the documentary and a horrible turn of events, the Siegels' life has come to a startling holt as the stock market has crashed. Almost all of the Siegels belongings have either been auctioned or sold. Any planes ,resorts ,and even their mansion which was 50% finished. Everything was sold at half price. Even the mansion was going to be sold at only 75 milllion. The family struggles with avoiding to compulsive shop and get used to the "normal" life. David tries to convince himself that material things don't completely matter to him. Yet he has a problem with wanting to see his timeshare company. Which I could understand because that is something that is really personal to him. The documentary is an eye opener. Money comes and goes but family is always there. The documentary does not finish with a happy ending due to the fact that the problems weren't resolved but the family continues to work hard at doing better with their spending habits. It is however, pretty funny to watch a rich family go through everyday struggles.

This film is worth watching just to get a heads up on the time-share business. I saw this movie just before I went to Las Vegas. When I got to Las Vegas, I got caught in a sales pitch for a time-share. Well, I knew just what to say to fend them off and collect $100 without passing Go. This film shows how the time-share people do not respect the buyers (marks). Watching this film made me appreciate my life. This is a good example that Gordon Gecko can be wrong. In this film, greed is not good, particularly when you are not happy. This film gives an insight into conspicuous consumption, an unhappy dysfunctional family and proves that money is not everything. I would say, before you buy a time-share watch this film.

Where to start...watching the rampant consumerism and lack of care given to all the junk they acquire made me sad. The part of the movie that bothered me the most was a small scene where Jacquie finds her daughter's pet Iguana dead of starvation. After the maids are fired, the kids no longer bother to care for their pets. It's brushed off as if it's nothing.Jacquie (Wife #3) is a shopaholic with ridiculously oversized fake breasts who seems a bit ditzy. She has a engineering degree but seems to have given up her smart, determined self from years past to be arm candy to a man 30 years her senior (David) who has a affinity for beauty pageant winners. Once the economy starts to affect their lifestyle and they are on the verge of bankruptcy things get ugly - you can see the resentment he has towards his wife. The stress of imminent financial ruin should make him appreciate his family more, but instead it causes him to retreat and ignore his family. At one point David refers to Jacquie as an old hag (mean!) The slam doesn't even register with her - she is kind of living in her own little fantasy world and she rationalizes he is bad behavior saying he is just stressed. She spends gobs of money on clothing ( designed to showcase her comically large breast implants), shoes, and handbags and plastic surgery to keep herself "hot" for her geriatric not so good -looking ( but rich!) husband. While she seems generally clueless about things you sense she is probably a person who is good on the inside, but lacks discipline and self-awareness and gets validation based on how she looks. David on the other hand becomes mean and spiteful towards his family. The true character of a person comes out when they are stressed and David shows an ugly side.I think the film gave a fairly honest portrayal of the family and the Seigals relationship whether they wanted it to or not. There may of been a few disingenuous scenes (e.g. Where Jacquie pretends to think a chauffeur comes with the car they are renting from Hertz,) but overall the film is well done and compelling viewing. My fantasy ending is for Jacquie to dump her loser husband, get a real career with her engineering degree and start to parent her kids in a responsible way. Ain't gonna happen, because I hear she is signing up to do a reality show. Please, no mas!

HAHAHAHAHA!!!! White trash in big houses going broke. I laughed my ass off. I hope they get arrested for animal abuse, corruption, fraud, and basically running a giant ponzi scheme. And the stupid twits want people to feel bad for them. Oh boo-hoo-hoo. Typical republicans. They think they are funny rigging elections, taking money from pensions to funnel into their illegal and endangered animal hide wallets. Everyone call CPS and animal control. Report them for the abuse that is documented in this film. Then call the US Attorney General and demand prosecution for his self admitted illegal crimes. I hope this asshole ends up in prison.
