Linbeymusol Wonderful character development!
LastingAware The greatest movie ever!
KnotStronger This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.
Darin One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.
kumiretto Some reviewers say this is not a comedy but a drama. I would say while Osmanli Cumhuriyeti is a comedy attempt, it ends up as unsuccessful drama. The plot is very thin and Müjde tries to create drama through portraying how the Sultan has to go through embarrassing situations in daily life as Osmanli Cumhuriyeti is no longer free and sovereign. But there is simply not enough substance here as a collection of unimportant details fail to bring neither comedy nor drama. For example, taxi drivers do not recognize him and foreign diplomats put him down.My feeling is that Müjde was probably thinking like a Turk on the street rather than a filmmaker while shooting this movie. First he would need to have chosen between comedy and drama but I fail to see how a comedy could be made as the collapse of Ottoman Empire is a national tragedy. Where can be the humor when the Sultan is treated as a nobody ? Second he should have spent serious time and effort on the drama or comedy body. As I said before, there is no substance here. The drama needs emotions yet nowhere in the film Müjde can captivate our emotions and make us 'watch the film' as our captivated emotions are shepherded thorough the plot. Both the director and the actors are talented people and it is a waste to see their effort go bust. They could and can do much better ! But Müjde has to focus on filmmaking and has to stop interviewing pop singers and second rate models on TV. So are we surprised that a capable man with no focus makes a film that is out of focus ? No.As a Turk I see how good-willed and idealistic they are for they also attempt to show what would have happened if there was no Atatürk. But this is simply too much. OC is an attempt to make a comedy out of a big drama while attempting to teach us history in an idealistic way as if in a documentary !
exculuber Osmanli Cumhuriyeti has many issues which are bounded to actual present. The director and the author of the movie should be applauded for their intelligence that makes us realize why important to have independence in own country. The specific issues and details and the example which directly interest the modern day are qualified. Furthermore, the film squad is above the standards, which are well-known comedy stars. However, the movie is not an certain comedy; the genre of the movie is mostly drama. Therefore the actors and actresses should have been selected for this perspective. Also, the movie is advertised as full-comedy film acted by Ata Demirer. Even Ata Demirer make some sufficient jokes, the whole movie is not for him, or his carrier, or the movie shouldn't be presented as a Ata Demirer comedy show, because it makes audience shock while watching it. Finally, the conclusion of the movie is too simple for that content. I think the final part of the movie addresses only for idiots. The director should be aware of the knowledge of the audience, because the end of the movie is just like teaching children history.
ancalimonungol After I watched Osmanli Cumhuriyeti, V For Vendetta came to my mind. They can be put to same category. I can easily call this movie a Satirical and Political film with an alternative history. What could have happened if Atatürk died when he was a small child. Today's situation in Turkey is not that far from what is shown in the movie. Also the funny moments in the movie did not make me laugh, but they made me think All those jokes were full of irony. The movie also shows why Turks fought for their country without weapons, shoes or food in harsh conditions while many Middle Eastern countries that were colonized by the imperialist countries did not. The movie tries to show the Turkic passion for freedom, but fails to show what Turks could have done in dire situations.Ataturk was just a catalyst for Turkish identity, enlightenment and their freedom. If he never existed, Turks would have chosen another leader for them. Whatever today's situation is, there will be no way anyone to put Turks in a cage. History always repeats itself.
unamoures To make a long story short, this movies sucks With simplest meaning of the word it is worth nothing. I am a fan of Demirer but he does not change my idea. I did my best to laugh during the movie without any success. You need to force yourself to have some fun from that movie. I am an historian I like the movies somehow have connection with history. But I must tell Gani Müjde and his so-called scenario are totally worthless. And if someone tries to find a scapegoat for the failure of this movie I might choose him. But all in all nobody is worth to be watched in this movie. This is not all because of the actors. After all there are good actors that I like to watching despite the fact that most of them are no worth. But with this scenario which does not present anything to be seen as worth something Even Alpacino could not have changed the fate of this movies which simply sucks... Sorry to make that comment but one needs to tell the truth. Especially someone like me who paid for nothing in return for watching this worthless movie, not counting the time that I had spent for it
