Reviews
Dotbankey A lot of fun.
Dynamixor The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
Fairaher The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
Cody One of the best movies of the year! Incredible from the beginning to the end.
Scott LeBrun "The New Barbarians" stars Giancarlo Prete as Scorpion, a lone wolf in a post nuke future. The agreeably derivative plot sees him do battle with the evil marauding gang The Templars, a colourful bunch who wear big, bulky costumes. The Templars are led by the megalomaniac "One" (George Eastman), and have numbers on their side. However, on his side Scorpion has the enigmatic, crossbow-wielding Nadir (Fred Williamson). The movie may depend on a formula that had become quite familiar by this point, but it's still fun. There are lots of cool gadgets, vehicles, and set decoration to enjoy, a percussive music score by Claudio Simonetti, and quite a lot of juicy over the top violence. (The weapons in this story are capable of doing some substantial damage). Director Enzo G. Castellari was no stranger to this kind of action packed entertainment, and handles everything in style.Prete is an amiable if somewhat low key hero; it's the delicious Eastman and the even more amusing Williamson that tend to steal the show. The eclectic supporting cast features other familiar faces: Anna Kanakis as Alma, Ennio Girolami as the henchman Shadow (get a load of this guy's hair!), Venantino Venantini as the patriarchal Father Moses, and Zora Kerova as a member of Father Moses's group. Plus, adding even further to the entertainment value is the presence of none other than "Bob", a.k.a. youthful actor Giovanni Frezza, as a pint sized mechanic and gadget creator. This one doesn't really do anything to rise above most of the entries in this genre, but it's still a fine example of its kind. Castellari is under no pretensions concerning what kind of diversion he's making, and delivers a sufficient amount of action and nastiness. He and his cast & crew show their audience a good time for 91 fairly energetic minutes.Seven out of 10.
Chase_Witherspoon Despite the 'wasteland' tag, there's dozens of people alive and apparently well travelling in self sufficient tribes, minding their own business until George Eastman and Enio Girolami (aka Thomas Moore) turn up in their rocket-propelled dune buggies to rid the earth of man's seed as payback for the apocalypse. Spurned former bad guy Timothy Brent travels the wilderness in search of wrong-doing, preserving what he can of the former world, supported by the self-proclaimed invincible warrior Fred Williamson (comically named "Nadir" in spite of his alleged prowess). Predictably, Eastman and Brent don't get along too well, and their eventual stand-off is widely anticipated.Brent is bland and serious, whereas Williamson at least affects some emotion in his unusual role of the black archer whose explosive-tipped arrows ensure he never misses even when he misses. Former Miss Italy, Sicilian beauty Kanakis has a nude silhouette moment, but otherwise the "R" rating is for mannequins being blown apart or clumsily decapitated by whirring rotary blades and other contraptions of the ilk. Czech beauty Zora Kerova ("Woman from Deep River", "The New York Ripper") has a very minor role early in the film for those who know where to look.Plenty of light heartedness and humour, particularly Frezza as the pre-pubescent child mechanic-inventor who's an ace with the shanghai and just as sharp with the tongue. Some cool cinematographic angles, sound effects and editing make it an audio-visual experience, but the stunt-work lacks precision and overall the production looks cheap and rushed. Fun, mildly entertaining with colourful characters and campy special effects (watch the decapitation dummy crumple in a heap), but it's mostly repetitive and predictable sci-fi fodder.
BaronBl00d You may have thought you'd seen it all but you just have not until you've seen Warriors of the Wasteland, an apocalyptic tale of one man, Scorpion, fighting off the Templars - a group to which he formally belonged that goes around trying to purge mankind by killing any survivors(except themselves of course)of the nuclear holocaust which has left a barren world void of any vegetation or animal life or real cities but lo! has allowed a new world of crates, cardboard cities, junk cars and trucks, and movable golf carts by the dozens. There must also be gasoline I assume in this new post-apocalyptic vision. Hmmm. This film is just awful and just awful in so many ways. Let's, for a moment, buy into the cardboard cities that somehow survive while cities of stones, bricks, and steel disintegrate - the story is ludicrous as we see a band of men just attack with no real purpose. Why do they follow the man known as One? Why was there even a nuclear holocaust? Where did the cardboard come from? How about the big bubbles that are put over holes in cars? The golf carts with mechanisms that come out and slowly decapitate men that run and never waver from a straight path? The cast is wooden and principally Italian with Fred Williamson standing out in a bland performance but better than most of what you get. I really wasn't expecting much, but you think if people got enough money to produce this and act in it and assemble all that cardboard that they would have at least put a bit more care and attention to details, the story, the direction, the settings, and their performances. At the very least the American title is partially prophetic using the word "waste."
kap21 This is very stupid. Mad max rip off but in this movie the hero don't have any guts beside trying to. He actually don't fight anyone cause he have a guardian angel. Still the bad guys fears him for some reason. The most funny is when he shows his war-armor in clear plastic .. *G* The little boy is bad ... but have more guts then the hero The cars (bad guys) are very silly so are their uniforms ... very funny when they capture the hero and the bad gang leader want to take him in the ass .. *G* It's so bad but funny ... the acting is very very bad.I liked post apocalyptic (like "she") but this is bad and only if you want to laugh it's worth to see.
