SoftInloveRox Horrible, fascist and poorly acted
Livestonth I am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible
kitfox30 When i was a little girl, my sister had rented this as a New Release. he and her friends had gotten so spooked, they decided to spend the night upstairs in my room rather than going downstairs to hers. For lack of something better to do, I had watched it with them. There are some truly surprising moments and o totally enjoyed it. Watched it a few times over the next few years. Haven't been able to find in anywhere, same with "Popcorn" but am going to keep looking.
yourmotheratemydog715 This post-AMITYVILLE HORROR haunted house film directed by porn director Armand Weston occasionally delivers the goods, but is more-often-than-not lame, overpadded and a little cheesy.Writer Lauren Cochran goes out to the country to try and get past her agoraphobia, but when she moves into a frighteningly familiar octagonal house, she finds that there's things to be afraid of inside as well! First off, I'm rather disappointed that the film didn't make the main character's agoraphobia more of a main plot point. The idea of an agoraphobe renting a haunted house, unable to leave because of crippling panic attacks but unable to stay because of haunting specters, would make for a pretty claustrophobic watch. Instead, Weston's script takes the plot in many different directions, implementing slasher elements, prostitute ghosts and a CHANGELING-like mystery unraveling.Sometimes, it works; there are some actually pretty spooky scenes here and there, and the mystery moves deftly enough to keep you involved. There are also some really fun set-pieces involving sickles and high-rise rescues.Unfortunately, the over-the-top acting and dialogue from most of the supporting characters ruins any atmosphere the film could've created (the writer's quippy boyfriend had me about ready to turn off the film 20 minutes in). The unraveling of the mystery reaches a silly, melodramatic conclusion. And I often found the sound design to be distractingly amateurish, a gripe I do not have very often. Overall, you could do a lot worse with '80s haunted-house flicks (HOUSE WHERE EVIL DWELLS, any AMITYVILLE film), but you could also do better (CHANGELING, SILENT SCREAM).Fun fact: The octagonal house where the film was shot is still standing in New York state and may be the only domed octagonal residence still in existence in the United States!
BA_Harrison Lauren Cochran (Robin Groves) is an agoraphobic novelist who leaves the hustle of the bustle of the city to rent an isolated house in the country, where she hopes to concentrate on her next book. Fat chance, for soon after arriving, the writer suffers a series of terrifying visions that lead her to suspect that the place is haunted. She's correct, of course: her new abode, a whorehouse during the war, was the site of a terrible, bloody massacre, and now the spooks want revenge! For a film about a haunted brothel, by a film-maker best known for X-rated 'roughie' porn, The Nesting is surprisingly less exploitative than one might expect, taking a comparatively reserved approach that concentrates more on delivering atmosphere and scares than simple shock value. To director Armand Weston's credit, the result isn't all that bad, with an intriguing basic plot, reasonable central performances, and one or two well constructed death scenes that benefit from the sparse but effective use of gore (the demise of a nasty hick at the hands of a sickle wielding Lauren is especially fun); but although the finished product ain't a total disaster, it's not a complete success either, suffering from a poorly developed script in desperate need of judicious pruning (the film is way overlong at 102 minutes!), a couple of irritating characters (most notably, Lauren's wise-cracking boyfriend Mark), some blatant silliness that should have been fixed before filming commenced (how the hell does Lauren's self-help tape know the layout of her apartment?), and a daft ending that just doesn't know when to quit. It's a shame, because one can't help but feel that with such a salacious premise, the whole affair is something of a wasted opportunity: if Weston had stayed true to himself by allowing his film to be even half as depraved as his X-rated output, The Nesting would have been a far more satisfying film—a sleaze fan's idea of heaven instead of a fairly entertaining, but ultimately forgettable ghost story.5.5 out of 10, rounded up to 6 for IMDb.
slayrrr666 "The Nesting" is a fine, if somewhat slow supernatural entry.**SPOILERS**Troubled by various dreams, Lauren Cochran, (Robin Groves) is told by her psychiatrist Mark Felton, (Christopher Loomis) that a trip to the country would be of great help to her. Traveling out to the country, they rent out a house owned by Col. Lebrun, (John Carradine) and decide to stay there for the time being. As her dreams become more vivid, her friend Daniel Griffith, (Michael David Lally) comes up to visit, and she tells him about the dreams, which triggers off a series of strange accidents in the house which no one else around her will believe. Investigating while the dreams are still occurring, they find that the house has a morbid history involving the previous owners of the house who are still around torturing visitors through their ghosts. Knowing the cause of the disturbances, they set out to stop them before the are further menaced by the malevolent spirits. The Good News: There isn't a whole lot to this one that really works, and it suffers from that. The main thing, and most of it's positive points, come from it's early death scenes. There's a real nice amount of excitement built up from them and it makes them somewhat engaging. The early scene out on the terrace, where a supernatural force drags a victim to the outside out onto a thin ledge, where a struggle to get them in results in a supernatural force knocking one onto a weather-vane nearby. It works due to an extended set-up that makes it over into the creepy tone. A later scene where a renovator is attacked by a supernatural presence in the house before going on an extended chase through the woods before finally ending in a terrific scene in the middle of the lake is rather impressive and remains part of the film's best moments. The ending is rather impressive, mainly due to their being a hint of action and creepiness on display that makes it watchable. The only other part that really works at all is a brief attack that takes place after a sex scene that goes in the right direction and helps to make it somewhat effective and creepy. Otherwise, there just wasn't much else to like about the film. The Bad News: There's only a couple problems with this one, mostly centering around one main one. There's almost no action at all in the film, leaving large sections of the film to feel dull, boring and slow. These are punctuated by the incessant and needless scenes where the only thing happening is two characters talking about the dreams or some encounter, and these are dragged out to the point that it becomes intolerable. They're not interesting, rarely do anything more than pad out time and provide scenes that break up the action for almost interminable lengths, as it seems like forever before anything happens and the next time it happens is just as long. There's very little moments that they bring up which amount to anything remotely resembling entertainment or excitement and just make the film feel way longer than it really is. The few attacks are also short and quite brief, making them even less impressive and doing very little to make them worthwhile, sticking them in with a very unimaginative pattern that makes it hard to stay interested late in the film. The flashback explanation scene, which should've been a highlight as it's a real bloodbath, turns out to very little of interest due to the extreme lack of blood and the fact that it's too dark to see what's going on turn it into a disappointment. These here keep the film from fulfilling it's potential. The Final Verdict: A rather dull and lifeless, though interesting, supernatural entry with little going for it, especially against what else was going on at the time. Check it out if interested or have an inclination towards these films, otherwise this wouldn't be one that would change anything if skipped.Rated R: Violence, Graphic Language, Brief Nudity and a shadowy sex scene
