Reviews
Majorthebys Charming and brutal
Glucedee It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.
Mabel Munoz Just intense enough to provide a much-needed diversion, just lightweight enough to make you forget about it soon after it’s over. It’s not exactly “good,” per se, but it does what it sets out to do in terms of putting us on edge, which makes it … successful?
Sienna-Rose Mclaughlin The movie really just wants to entertain people.
Eric Stevenson I don't know why, but it's really easy to find most religious movies online, especially ones with Jesus. I guess it's true that people have learned to share from him! Anyway, I was surprised that this movie, being the longest Jesus movie I've ever seen, didn't start out with Jesus' birth. Of course, it's been awhile since I've read my Bible. It's mostly because I literally can't read my Bible since it's just been ripped apart from how often I used it when I was little. I guess we can just assume this is just what John says about Jesus. If so, it ended up being as amazing as you would imagine. We even get to see Jesus use some authority as he actually scares people off with a whip! I'm a frequent church goer, but we don't seem to really talk that much about the actual narrative. What makes this movie a classic is of course how well it's acted. I mean, this is probably the best Jesus I've ever seen. I'm really surprised that this movie isn't more well known. It's ranked as one of the best religious films ever made! Nowadays, we get awful films like "Saving Christmas" and "Left Behind" that are nothing but crap. This movie perfectly demonstrates exactly what Jesus wants us to believe. It's simply the notion that we shouldn't judge and love everyone. I'm still familiar with the Bible enough to recognize most of what's going on. Of course, it's been done in countless other movies. Every time this guy talks, I completely believe him as Jesus. We just have this great sincerity and wonderful smile from this guy constantly. They even begin by saying that the film is in no way meant to be Anti-Semitic. It's simply amazing that anyone would be this way because it was Jews who wrote most of the Bible. In a modern world where everyone is being torn apart by differences, they're the closest things to Christians.Okay, I know little about Muslims, so I can't really tell for sure. I especially love how Jesus keeps referring to his dad, but he never really mentions that it's God. It's a pretty interesting perspective on him. Yeah, I'd have to read John again to fully understand it. They even got the fact right of how people were nailed in their wrists and not palms to be crucified. Even "The Passion Of The Christ" with how authentic it tried to be got that wrong! It's always important to be accurate and I hope more people are open to this wonderful film. God loves us the way we are. ****
erichansen1836 This film is flawed. Yes, it is a beautifully made film with great purpose, and I am thankful for it. However, it is not a faithful account of the Gospel totally as the film states (at the beginning). One major issue exists. Jesus claimed that the only sign he would give was that of Jonah. That just as Jonah was 3 days and 3 nights in the belly of the great fish, so the Son of Man will be 3 days and 3 nights in the heart of the earth. "Tear down this temple, and in 3 days I will rebuild it again". Jesus was speaking of his body. The narrative in the film states that Jesus was crucified on Friday. This statement does not jive with Jesus' claims. Jesus was crucified on Wednesday, laid in the tomb before sundown, then rose from the dead after sundown on Saturday (thus 3 days and 3 nights in the heart of the earth). What Jesus did after Sundown on Saturday until early morning Sunday when Mary discovered him is not an issue. Perhaps he prayed? The most important point of the film is that Jesus is the Son of God, and that believing in him one has eternal life. That is the great message of the Bible and is conveyed in the film. However, why would a Jew believe this message when it is obvious to them that Christians have it all wrong when it comes to Jesus' sign of Jonah? The following passage used in the film incorrectly uses Friday instead of Wednesday as the day Jesus was crucified.Good News Bible Translation 3.John 19:31 [ Jesus' Side Is Pierced ] Then the Jewish authorities asked Pilate to allow them to break the legs of the men who had been crucified, and to take the bodies down from the crosses. They requested this because it was Friday, and they did not want the bodies to stay on the crosses on the Sabbath, since the coming Sabbath was especially holy.
poet-christian Without doubt this is to date the best movie ever made. It's true to the actual gospel (sadly though the good news version of the gospel), the acting's phenomenal and not overly spiritual or out of this world. Natural reactions, realistic setting and a "more than average" accuracy in terms of the portrayal of Characters. The best, most moving film I have ever seen. The Passion of the Christ is complete crap in comparison. The DVD version even allows you to go through chapters of the gospel, so one can read a chapter and watch the same chapter on screen every day. A fun- filled way to take in the wonderful book of John. I would recommend it to young and all, simple and intellectual. Great gift, awesome soul-winning tool and a masterpiece of a production. A must watch!
headhunter46 This presentation of the life of Jesus was very touching. It was refreshing to Jesus portrayed as one who had a sense of humor. As if He truly enjoyed interacting with people, especially his disciples. I have always suspected he saw some humor in their reactions. He knew everything that would transpire and to see their reactions had to be a bit amusing to him.Really people, think about it. Doesn't the platypus prove that God has a sense of humor? If He didn't He would have sent a second flood to wipe out ALL mankind. As one who attended many different churches while growing up I feel I have a broad spectrum of religion and a high level of acceptance for the wide variety of biblical teachings. I came to this movie with open mind and of course already knew the majority of what I would see. But the humanistic portrayal was to me, a blessing. That is the character of Jesus I have always imagined. I know he had said he was a man of constant sorrow, but even we mere mortals can be really, truly in a deep funk and see or hear something that lifts our spirits. (Been there done that). Surely Jesus was the same. Think of his joy at the wedding in Canaan.I simply cannot imagine that Jesus, the active agent of creation, could walk through this beautiful world he created and maintain a sour disposition the entire span of his life. He is a God who loves life, look at all He created.I very much liked the way the reactions of the Jewish authorities was portrayed. I have always suspected they had a selfish motive for wanting Jesus done away with. It wasn't all legalistic and ritual. The blasphemy claim was probably true to their thinking since they DIDN'T believe he was the son of God. But also, the leaders feared they would lose their influence over the people and be removed from their high places in society. As I watched the scene with the feeding of the multitude, I found myself wondering how many of those thousands went home and told friends and neighbors what they had seen. Surely they too were disciples of a sort and helped spread the gospel. From reading I have done the Gospel spread incredibly fast over the middle east and even Europe. Considering there was NO mass transportation that is truly an accomplishment.I have read reviews by others who like one Jesus movie but not another. I have learned something from every movie about him that I have seen. One needn't agree 100% with all in order to see some good in it. Each one has shown a slightly different aspect of Jesus, another window into what He must have really been like. What did Jesus look like? My oh my, I can't believe the discussion over that. With all the migration and intermarriage prior to Jesus' birth I rather doubt it is possible to be certain to any degree as to what skin tone he had. And to me it matters not one bit what color He was. What He did for mankind goes beyond skin tone. I suspect his face had a kindliness about it. Not homely, but not incredibly handsome either. After all it was His character that was supposed to appeal to mankind. It was not a beauty contest. Had He been too handsome people would have been attracted to Him for the wrong reason. We know that children loved to be near Him so it is not likely he was homely. No, I am sure He resembled a kindly big brother or a loving uncle. The Jesus I have come to know is a warm, loving God who truly grows anxious to end the strife on earth and draw His believers near once again.I feel this movie did an excellent job of depicting what life back then was like and what Jesus lived through. And all He was willing to suffer for the right to claim us and keep us from the clutches of Satan. It was educational to get a good glimpse of the clothing, footwear and the utensils they used.
