chi_town_fed People who who are not avid Sci-Fi enthusiasts may rate this film higher than I. The holes in this film are beyond massive. The scientists is anything but. The frequency issue was a joke. They sent an apple through the sending pod that apparently went through but did not materialize in the receiving pod. When it did not come back they quickly concluded it went to a parallel universe (what a leap). Then they concluded the apple did not come back because the beings in the parallel universe must be on a different frequency. Question, if they are a different frequency, how did they receive the apple? So they wrote the frequency on a paper and sent it through, which apparently solved the problem as the apple was sent back.Next they sent a video camera through. The parallel universe scientist was on the recording that came back. The scientist decided to send herself through. "Hey. The apple and the camera worked. So why not?" Without hesitation nor reservation, she brings the alternate husband back to this universe because hers recently died. The duplicate turns out to be a homicidal maniac. Of course no one must know this is a duplicate husband. The assistant builds another teleporter in his basement. Wires dangling inside the box. Somehow his house circuit breakers and power lines are designed to provide 300 "Petawatts" of power without blowing a fuse. There is so much more wrong with this film it is too much to write.
PFGasparro I was searching for a Syfy movie that wasn't too 'heady' or full of holes. I came across this on Amazon Prime and the short description caught me. From beginning to end I was wrapped up in it. Not a lot of CGI (none?), low budget, and very few sets. However the acting was very good, the directing and pacing was very good, and considering the deep subject, they did a great job of going just deep enough to keep it moving along. The cliff hanger ending was just enough for me to wonder if there'll be a part 2! Well done Aussie flick I'd watch again!!
swincha I enjoyed this movie and it made me want to know more at the end of the movie. Everyone is too much of a critic. You are at home, as for me seeing this from Amazon Prime. This is a good tv sci fy movie that most have not already seen.
wdavidbrown The Gateway ("Alpha Gateway" on the US Amazon site) is a surprisingly good and thought provoking film that even those who do not normally watch science fiction should find enjoyable. The principle is that at any time we live in only one of perhaps many parallel worlds, some nearly identical to ours and others vastly different. There have been a number of films exploring similar issues in time travel, which open a whole new "world" of possibilities, as does this film in its approach to parallel universes. We won't spoil it here...it is simply too good. But watch for the surprise last few seconds which are so strong that one must ask if a follow up might be on the way.
