Cebalord Very best movie i ever watch
Blaironit Excellent film with a gripping story!
Lollivan It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
Winifred The movie is made so realistic it has a lot of that WoW feeling at the right moments and never tooo over the top. the suspense is done so well and the emotion is felt. Very well put together with the music and all.
doped_hate_machine One of the best movies ever made. Subversion at its best. Destruction of American cinema. Thanks Makavejev and Muhuel. Great job. Highly recommended for a mind altering cinematic experience. People with blocked minds and lovers of American commercial cinema beware. This is not some high end Mission impossible with plastic gadgets and special effects. This is not a story with a plot and stupid narration. This is the real thing folks. Watch it if you dare to. Go for it. Enjoy. Highly recommended to open minds and understand the power of cinema. Also other makavejev's movies like mysteries of the organism. Expect the unexpected. To make a movie like this you have to be like a mad scientist.
SurWilliam Forgive the title. I saw someone had a similar title for their review and I thought it was hilarious. I really don't think spoilers are relevant in a film like this...I never became sexually aroused while watching this film.I'm still not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing....Furthermore, I was neither disturbed nor disgusted, which also makes me wonder whether I've seen too many things in my life that I shouldn't have. I think I grasp the director's intended message and that which other reviewers here are trying to express, but I rather wonder when it's all said done what it was all for. Now I've seen someone defecate on camera. (actually, I had already seen someone defecate on camera prior to watching this film- maybe that's why I found it rather anti-climactic)I think this film may have been much more relevant when it was made, but today it's little more than a curious relic. All in all, it's an interesting art flick. Finish any meals before watching.A great primer for Salo.
tonymurphylee SWEET MOVIE is not a movie for everyone. This is a film that displays some of the cruelest and most bizarre human behavior ever captured on film. It is a film that doesn't follow rules in any narrative sense nor in normal human decency. The film is indecent. It is a film that will make anybody that watches it feel unclean. It is not just a dirty movie, it is THE dirty movie. It could be considered pornographic by the point of view of some people, and it could be described as thought-provoking cinema by others. I personally think it is both. This is a film that should be taken seriously, but at the same time the subject matter should be taken with a grain of salt. It is a very funny film, but it is also a very terrifying film. It is a film that I don't regret watching and that I don't intend to ever watch again. There is a scene in this film in which a group of people eat at a banquet and have a joyous time before slapping food on each other and then proceeding to make themselves vomit. Soon, every bodily fluid is on display in this ghastly scene. All the urinating, vomiting, defecation, it is all real. There is a gory scene in which a woman disembowels a man in a vat of sugar and his blood mixes with the sugar and becomes a sticky concoction. There is archive footage of partly decomposed corpses and dead bodies thrown into the mix to add shock value. One of the characters is a woman who lures little boys onto a boat with candy and then abuses, rapes, and murders them. This is not a pleasant film. What I've described are only a few of the many horrific acts in this film. This is a difficult film to digest. However, it is effective and it technically has all the surroundings and characteristics of a film. This does make the film very relevant in what it sets out to do. Is it dishonest to make a film like this? I'm not sure. I don't know whether to consider it a good movie or a bad movie. Technically it is a good movie, but the sheer despicable factor of it all and the lack of an intentional point makes it far more difficult to recommend for even the more tolerant film buffs. I certainly didn't enjoy watching it but I did admire it. However, when I see a scene like the one in this film in which a woman stripteases four little boys who look rather noticeably uncomfortable and clearly grossed out, I begin to think of it as a film that just wants to offend as many people as possible. I don't know whether to like it because it succeeds in what it sets out to do or to hate it for basically the same reason. I guess in the end I have to say that it's up to the viewer to decide whether they can handle such an extreme film. I certainly don't want to scare people away from such an ambitious film, but I definitely don't want to say it's good to watch! This is not a film that one can take lightly. This is not a film anybody can truly forget. If you thought PINK FLAMINGOS and VISITOR Q were bad, this is the next level in extremities.
PaulyC Wow, this movie may not be the greatest surreal movie put to film but the director, Dusan Makavejev, sure didn't pull any punches. As I talk about the story, keep in mind that I'm not making this up. An oil millionaire is holding a beauty contest to find himself a virgin bride. It can't be just any virgin bride. She has to be willing to be urinated on by the millionaires golden penis which he proudly shows off in the film many times. No, folks, it's not a statue or anything, he just happens to have a gold penis. He finds the seemingly perfect bride but she doesn't take well to this lifestyle after awhile and runs away. She ends up in a large suitcase which ends up being shipped to France. Once there she still finds a life of weirdness and nothing but strange people. She eventually comes across a commune where a large number of people urinate all over each other and eat their own feces and rub it all over each others bodies. The story, if you can call it that, also involves a sailer and a girl named Capt. Ann who can't get enough sex. Eventually there is a love scene which takes place in a large tub of sugar which turns to a sticky red batter after being bloodied up by Ann stabbing her partner. Keep in mind this is all surrealism and perhaps a little of the directors sick self-indulgence. I only understood a little of what I saw after seeing one of the special features on the DVD. You really need to know a little about foreign politics of the 60's to understand the film which I don't. I get the feeling however that even with that education you will be scratching your head for a lot of the movie. Surprisingly, there is actually a decent soundtrack to the film as one of the songs heard was actually a hit in Europe and is quite nice. Keep in mind, this is not a sex film but uses it to attack us in an unsettling way. I promise you won't be turned on by any of those scenes. Although I can't say I really liked this film since I didn't find the entire thing interesting, I can say that it's a hard movie to be passive about because of the symbolism I actually did understand. Watch at your own risk!
