Michael_Elliott Sometimes They Come Back...Again (1996) * (out of 4) A man (Michael Gross) returns to his hometown with his daughter (Hilary Swank) after the death of his mother. Once there he sees a teenager who looks like the same man who murdered his sister thirty-years earlier and now he's after the daughter. SOMETIMES THEY COME BACK...AGAIN is a pretty poorly produced sequel that ended up going direct-to-video and it's easy seeing why. What the producers have basically done is take the original Stephen King story and just use the basic concept of it and then add some new stuff of their own. This new stuff includes the teenage killer being a Satanist and this here leads to all sorts of stuff dealing with a cult and their needing to scarifies the daughter. I don't mind when someone adds something but if you're going to do it then you really need to improve the original idea or at least do something interesting. That doesn't happen here and we're basically left with a cheap version of the original film with a few more horror elements thrown in. I'm really not sure what the point of adding the horror elements were as everything is fairly tame, the deaths unmemorable and the special effects are at times laughable. Even worse is the voice alteration that they gave the main bad guy. I'm not sure if someone thought this was scary but it was more laughable than anything else. I've always liked Gross but he's pretty forgettable and way too boring here. It was somewhat fun seeing future Oscar-winner Swank here and especially in a rather weird sex scene. The rest of the supporting cast range from decent to boring. In the end, this sequel is clearly just a cheap excuse to try and milk some money from a fairly popular film.

The special-effects, sound-effects and all round acting is top-notch.This film is a sequel to the film Sometimes They Come Back (1991) based on the Stephen King novel of the same name.This film stars veteran actor Michael Gross and an added bonus: the gorgeous beauty Hilary Swank. Michael Gross isn't an imbecile to sign on for a film whose script isn't good. He thoroughly commands this film and his expressions throughout the film are believable.Hilary Swank on the other hand is the plot device on which the film hinges on. She is rightfully chosen for the film because of her seductive looks.The villain of the film is played by the awesome Alexis Arquette.Plot: Psychologist Jon Porter (Michael Gross) learns that his mother has just mysteriously fallen to her death. Jon and his teenage daughter Michelle (Hilary Swank) return to Jon's hometown of Glenrock for his mother's funeral. Once there, painful memories return. Thirty years earlier, when Jon was a child, he witnessed the brutal murder of his older sister Lisa (Leslie Danon), who was stabbed to death in a cave by a thug named Tony Reno (Alexis Arquette) and his two friends Vinnie (Bojesse Christopher) and Sean (Glen Beauden). But Jon managed to throw an electrical wire into a puddle of bloody water they were standing in, killing all three of them.Michelle becomes friends with mentally retarded gardener Steve (Gabriel Dell Jr.), as well as two girls, boy-crazy Maria (Jennifer Aspen), and Maria's psychic best friend, Jules (Jennifer Elise Cox), who used to clean her grandmother's house. The night after the funeral, they invite Michelle to go to the dinner with them, saying they would like to get to know her before she goes home for her 18th birthday. At the dinner, the girls are greeted by a boy who looks a lot like Tony Reno, even with the same name. While Maria develops a crush on him, he seems to be attracted to Michelle. He gives Michelle an old wristwatch as an early birthday present, then leaves. Maria and Jules are then murdered.Meanwhile, Jon is pestered by Father Archer Roberts (W. Morgan Sheppard), a priest he came to when Lisa was murdered. He tells Jon his mother's death was not an accident.Verdict: An excellent sequel, and a different take to the original. Add it to your horror DVD collection without delay...

lordzedd-3 As you may already be aware of that I am a fan of the first movie, but I got to admit that this second installment is even better then the first in several ways. First, the demon punks are even cooler then the zombie punks. Alexis Arquette who plays Tony Reno knows how to have fun while being evil, that's always cool. The demonic effects are cool. Now my complaint, they talk about how Jon kills the three punks electrocuting them, they even show it in the trailer, but why did they cut it out of the movie? I for a party of one think that is kind of important to the plot, that would be like cutting the train wreck from the first movie. Maybe they can put it back in some anniversary edition DVD or something. If you're reading this and own a DVD company, you might want to consider it. But other then that, I give Sometimes they come back again 9 STARS.

Vampenguin *Clearly marked minor Spoiler near the end*One thing can be said for Stephen King movies, whether he had a direct hand in them or not. They almost always have at least one or two really good characters, and the plot is always interesting. This film was no exception, and in fact was better than the first film, despite some incompetent cops and occasionally idiotic villains. Alexis Arquette made a great leader of the villains, though at times he seemed to be doing a bit of a Jerry Seinfeld impression. Micheal Gross was also very good as the typical troubled father. To be honest, the only part of the cast that wasn't up to par was Hillary Swank. If you told me in '96 that she would win an Oscar in less than a decade, I would have laughed in your face. As good as she may be now, she was awful in this film! Her lines were monotone, her facial expressions were flat, just and overall bad job. Up until the ending the plot moved along at a good pace, very interesting and enjoyable. The ending on the other hand seemed to drag on forever! I wont spoil it, but suffice to say it could have been a lot shorter. Last but certainly not least: The gore. *Herein lie the minor spoilers that I mentioned, so avert your eyes if you want. Nothing major though.* The deaths were all very well done and gory, though I wish we would have seen more of the lawnmower scene. The death by tarot cards was very cool however, and is quite possibly the best part of the film.Overall, I recommend at least renting the double sided DVD with this and it's predecessor. Two very enjoyable films, though this is slightly better.8/10
