This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

Isabelle James (Noomi Rapace) has been working under Christine Stanford (Rachel McAdams) at an advertising firm for the last eight months. Christine steals credit for Isabelle's highly successful work. Isabelle is dating Christine's ex Dirk Harriman. Christine seems to take Isabelle under her wings and even making passes at her. Dirk had been stealing company money with Christine but she throws him under the bus. Dirk breaks up with Isabelle. Isabelle releases her ad herself and it goes viral. Isabelle gets the recognition and Christine's promotion evaporates. Christine starts to work on destroying Isabelle and threatening Isabelle's assistant Dani. Then someone kills Christine. This is undoubtedly a Brian De Palma film. It is overwrought with plenty of his cinematic touches. He's pushing all of his familiar buttons. Rachel McAdams is basically an older version of Regina George. She is quite an expert on that type of role. Noomi Rapace is around the same age as McAdams. She has good acting range but this character may be better served with a younger and more naive actress. Isabelle needs to be a wide-eyed innocent before the twists. Overall, this is pulpy and unreal. I don't get the ballet sequence. De Palma may have pushed too hard on this one.

This film is a joy for lovers of psychological mystery, visual poetry and cinematic rhythm. I know this film is universally derided, also among revered critics, but I feel no shame to say I loved every second of it.Passion is another fine edition to Das kabinet des Dr. De Palma. All the exquisite ingredients to his powerful way of seducing are here. The suspense, the hysteria, the other worldliness of the real world, the camera in a camera, the dream in a dream, the thrilling music, the drama, and the undefinable De Palma Touch.Let yourself be caught of guard. Go see it without prejudice!

Creative gal gets screwed over by corporate gal, and bloody revenge comes knocking in a black giallo glove.Haha! Why? I had this on my watchlist for ages, but I forgot why and spent the entire film trying to figure out my motivation. Just like the plot. I suspect because I'd seen Rapace do something interesting and I hadn't heard of her before.Hard to believe a highly praised story could ferment into something so ... rocquefort. This version is like watching a daytime soap from Texas, but with great photography. The actresses are beautiful and perform well, but the ducking and diving of the plot is laughable. It does promise to make style deliver psychological substance, yet at every point it tries to swerve around the pit of ludicrousness and falls all the same. Most annoying was the music: creamy saxophone and swelling strings just made it a TV experience.I better watch the original.

Not too sure where to begin on this one. Once you get into the second half of the film you can really start to feel the DePalma aspects kick into gear. The camera-work is great as is expected. The only problem is that all of the split/screen and POV shots have already been done before and done better by DePalma himself nonetheless. Even the film itself is basically another variation of many of DePalma's earlier works, and again the downside to this is that he has done nearly everything in this film so much better in the past that it makes it even harder to appreciate any of the positive aspects of this film. Also doesn't help that the first half of the film is almost un-watchable in every way. Bad acting, bad writing, bad lighting, bad movie. With all of that said I am still a sucker for any and all of the old DePalma camera tricks and will always enjoy them even if I can't enjoy the rest of the film.
