The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

There's a more than satisfactory amount of boom-boom in the movie's trim running time.

Mickey Rooney and Anne Jackson are marvelous together as a former famous clown and his wife. Mickey is dying, and would like to see his many adopted children once more. William Windom and Elisha Cook play former clowns/colleagues of Mickey's, while Red Buttons plays his hospital roommate. A warm feel-good film.
