Eric and Kurt Sloane are the descendants of a well-known Venice, California-based family of martial artists. Kurt has always been in older brother, Eric's shadow, as he lacks the instincts needed to become a champion. Against Kurt's concerns, Eric accepts a paid offer and travels to Thailand to challenge the Muay Thai champion Tong Po and fails with dire consequences. Kurt sets out for revenge. He trains with his brother's mentor, Master Durand, for a Muay Thai fight against the merciless champion, Tong Po. Durand first thinks Kurt is impossible to train, but through a series of spiritual exercises and tests, Durand discovers that Kurt has a deeper strength that will carry him through his final showdown with Tong Po.

Ploydsge just watch it!
Griff Lees Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
Cassandra Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.
wow3 I believe this was a bit of a remake of the original Kickboxer which I like. More so after seeing this. Characters didn't convince me at all. There was martial arts talent but it just wasn't that competently filmed. Van Damme actually acted much worse than before in the -90s and his accent was also worse. The plot was mostly simple but I believe there was an attempt to make some weird sub-plot which never really played out.Length was good and the movie didn't seem too boring to sit through but still I can't really recommend this.
Leofwine_draca KICKBOXER: VENGEANCE is a remake of the Van Damme hit that now posits the ageing action star as mentor rather than pupil. The lead role is taken by the nondescript Alain Moussi, who fails to make much of an impression either in the acting or action stakes; imagine what Scott Adkins would have made of a role like this! In any case, this is a weaker film because it lacks the heart of the original; the Van Damme movie was a cheap and cheesy affair that nonetheless involved the viewer on an emotional level, whereas this film is glossier and shallower. What this film does boast are a series of efficient fight scenes with the action quotient ramped right up. There are extra characters and extra sub-plots throughout, with the Thai police involved and battles with masked goons in the streets. The fights aren't amazing but they do the job and remind one of the glory days of Tony Jaa in the likes of ONG BAK at times. Ironically, the big set-piece action with villain Dave Bautista is less engaging, although the final extended bout is good gruesome fun. Van Damme doesn't really seem bothered here in a laidback role, and Gina Carano has no fight scenes, which is criminal. Watch out for martial artist Darren Shahlavi in his last screen appearance before his sudden death.
nicholls_les This could have been a good film, so many genuine Martial arts and MMA fighters should have made this a great film, plus with the legendary John Claude Van-Damme how could it go wrong? Well sadly it went very wrong and I believe this is mainly down to the lead role being the wrong actor. Alan Moussi is very athletic and can clearly do Martial Arts but he has no charisma and he is a terrible actor. I never once believed he could win against Dave Batista's Tong Po. For me he was almost as unconvincing as Ralph Macchio in the original Karate Kid movie.Sara Malakul Lane adds some glamour but her character is pretty pointless and she seemed to just suddenly be in a relationship with Sloane for no reason. So over all disappointing, JCVD still has it! It's a shame that Alan Moussi doesn't. Poor casting makes a bad movie always.
Niccolo fidanzini I want to premise I'm a huge fan of JCVD and I consider Bloodsport and Kickboxer his main success and my fav movies... I don't know who decided to remake Kickboxer, but this movie is really garbage. I watched it last night without being ever involved, everything was flat and poor, characters, dialogue, editing, soundtrack. Bautista as Tong Po is an insult to all Muay Thai lovers, why not to try to use a real Thai boxer? ..the fake Tong Po that nothing has to see with the original one played by Mohammed Qissi (much more credible as Thai ). The training scenes of Kurt are like homemade, I could have done better, same screenshots, no pathos, no emotions, just a loop of the same images. I watched it until the end but I was continuing asking myself how its possible to make such a ugly remake. And the budget was more than enough for a movie without special effect. Ong Bak in this way teach a lot. I do now believe why this movie has barely touched the theater, I can save only JCVD that is always one step ahead regardless his age, but he's ridiculous when he speak to Kurt during the fight and his role of "master with the hat". Less than a B-movie, I can't believe there will be a sequel. "Kickboxer" didn't need a remake...
