StyleSk8r At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.

brianofnazareth-01132 This is a great film. It follows a number of Canadian Special Forces troops in Afghanistan. But this isn't just a shoot-'em-up war flick. It goes into a lot of the Afghan culture. It talks about blood feuds. It, also, brings up an ancient tribal code called Pashtunwali. It talks about the ideas of "panah" (to give one shelter in your home) and "badal" (justice and revenge). There is a monologue by Andrew Wall. At the end he says, "Even the dirt here is hostile. In Afghanistan, dogs fight dogs, birds fight birds, men kill men." So, if you are looking for a great movie about soldiers in the "sand box". If you want to see great performances from actors that you, probably, have never heard of. If you want to see breath taking scenery. Then this is the movie for you.

Justin Miller I know their were Canadians who did combat operations in Afghanistan, but unfortunately I didn't have the opportunity to work with them. I absolutely know they would hate this movie though. They way the Soldiers were portrayed in such a cliché way, to the horrible one dimensional representations of the Afghans. All the great user reviews from the Canadians here, do yourselves a favor and go talk to one of your veterans...and not someone who worked in the TOC or someone who claims they are a war hero, go talk to an average grunt who went out on patrol everyday and saw action a handful of times because this is the fantasy type crap that creates s**t ideas of what war is like.

mom_hlm Great writing, acting and direction.I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and will watch it again and again.I highly recommend this film. I have watched many a war movie and this covers every emotion that these men and women could possibly go through when away from home and family. The story was riveting. The writer didn't need to tell it through sex and drugs as so many movies now do. The music could have been quieter,at one time it was hard to hear what the actor was saying.There were many actors that I haven't seen much of and kudos to them for such a wonderful performance. Have to admit I did develop quite a crush on that white haired devil, oh yeah,pleased this old lady lol

bradhayes-54991 I figured going into the movie, once I saw that it was a Canadian flick, that the typical cynical movie expectation would be the outcome. I figured I would end up turning it off once I saw the typical low budget, bad acting, political correctness that seems to be Canadian cinema. NOT A CHANCE! This movie was fantastic! The actors did a terrific job. The whole Hyena Road deal was a little thin but it made it up in other areas like the complexities of middle eastern culture, history and honour. It showed the Canadian forces as true professionals that they are. The narrators voice seemed a bit out of place but most of the information provided gave perspective and background and the narrations were infrequent. Afghanistan is certainly not a place for the faint of heart and this movie showed why. This showed as a big budget movie. I have already recommended this movie to several colleagues and friends.WELL DONE Mr. Gross!
