ReaderKenka Let's be realistic.
Lucybespro It is a performances centric movie
Tedfoldol everything you have heard about this movie is true.
Roman Sampson One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
nightjar-2 If you've seen or heard about the original adaptation of Guyver, forget what you know. You're doing yourself a favor for two reasons. One is because the first one was such a tur... um, bomb. The second reason is because this one not only has NOTHING to do with the first movie, but has a decent B Movie Sci Fi story line, and absolutely amazing fight scenes.Guyver 2, along with G Saviour (a live actor version from the pages of the Gundam universe), are both decent B movies fit for Saturday nights with geeky friends who enjoy slightly cheesy Sci Fi, have watched too much MST3K and who know how to not take things so seriously that everything out of their mouths start with, "Yes, well actually...." Guyver 2 is fun. Give it a look-see.
BloodTheTelepathicDog This film plays like a bloody version of a Power Rangers episode.. The target audience is unknown, as parents will find it too violent for their children, and adults will find the comic book feel to be completely inane.Kathy Christopherson, a sexy little pixy, was the only reason I watched this film through until the end credits. She reminds me a lot of Kari Wuhrer, and that is a very good thing. She deserves much better than this comic styled stinker. The main star David Hayter was laughable, but has now found his niche as a screenwriter with X-Men under his belt. Lets just hope that he sticks to writing, and doesn't attempt another Guyver flick
ryx-1 I remember when The Guyver first hit anime. It was and still IS wonderful. Then came along issues of B-Club (wonderful modeling and anime mag) showing the live action costume! I was so excited! And then I saw the movie (first one... with Mark Hammill... guess he needed the work or something). ::shudder:: Nuff Said. Now to this movie... not that you have to forget everything in the first one happened (but it helps... especially with the uncontrollable fits of laughter)... but it happens. Sho (now Sean) is in the grip of this horrible uncontrollable armor which has "invaded" his body. Funny... most guys I know at that age would probably (while not altruistically) enjoy some of the cool stuff you could do with it one you had it. Still.. he's moody and on a quest. Typical 80's-ish style movie when you get down to it. Guy with Techno-genic armor parasite meets girl whose a researcher on the SAME archaeological dig he's MYSTICALLY drawn to, throw in some rather nicely done suits, neat plot twist pulling from other Guyver Units (shown in the anime) found, evil bad guy 2nd in command whose ALWAYS last when it comes to the free donuts the office brings in (makes him cranky), slight case of love interest and an ending dripping in altruism, stir till slightly buzzed (cuz it's a great drinking movie) and you've got some great B-Entertainment.
willywants PLOT: Sean Barker became the unwilling host to an alien bio-armor known as the Guyver. A year ago he destroyed the Kronos Corporation, an organization of mutants who want the Guyver. Now he is trying to find why the Guyver unit forces him to fight and kill evil. He is lead to an archelogical site where scientists discover an ancient space craft. Now he must fight Kronos again before they discover the secrets of the Guyver's origin.ACTING: 3/10- Not especially impressive. Interestingly, though, the main character went on to write the script for the X-MEN films.DIRECTING: 5/10- Dry and boring, shaky. Steve Wang should have stayed doing the F/X.GORE: 8/10- This film is quite gory. A man gets his throat cut, lots of blood poor from the wound. A creature gets his head cut off while in a river, the water turns red. A creature gets his eyes gouged out by a laser, his hands broken off at the rists, stabbed in the stomach multiple times and then gets his head crushed. A creature gets electrocuted and then shot two times. A creature's head explodes. A creature melts down to the bone. A creature gets stabbed with a crow-bar. The death scenes are graphic and bloody.MONSTERS: We get a whole bunch. A Rihno creature, A Frog monster, a intelligent-looking "Predator" like creature, a Bee creature,a beetle man, a scaly humanoid creature, a big ugly alien, and several indistinct aliens in tubes. SPECIAL EFFECTS: 7/10- The creature suits are fun, the monster designs are cool and original.MUSIC: Uneven. Nothing special or memorable.Final verdict- The story is good, the creature effects are fun and film showed consistant effort but the poor acting and weak direction hammer it. 5.5/10.
